If you've been reading round these parts for some time now, I'm sure you'll have heard me ramble on about the L'Oréal Brow Artiste Pencil and the Soap and Glory Archery Pencil. Together, they are the two pencils I've been using to fill in my brows for what feels like the longest time and combined with the L'Oréal Brow Artiste Plumper to set them in place, they are quite the winning formula. I've never felt the need to switch things up, until recently when I fancied a change and headed straight to the NYX counter. As of late, NYX have been the one brand which everyone seems to be raving about for brows and one product in particular which has been receiving the most attention is the Micro Brow Pencil. It's got an almost-identical set up to that of the Soap and Glory Archery Pencil - with a thin, twist-up nib on one end and a spoolie on the other - but with a much wider selection of shades and so this time round, when it came to replenishing my brow products I opted for two shades of the NYX offering to give a go.
As I said, I picked up two different colours - one lighter ('Taupe) and one darker ('Espresso') - to ensure I could replicate the effect I like to create using my usual brow pencil duo. I like to use the lighter one to carve out the initial shape of my brow (as you know, my natural brows are pretty sparse) and concentrate on filling in the front, whereas the darker hue I tend to use to add extra depth and definition to the outer tail of my brow and also the arch. I opted for both shades in an ashy tone, to match up to the cool undertone in my natural hair colour, and I'd say they did a pretty good job. I was hoping that having both pencils in this 'micro' format would help me be even more precise when filling my brows in and I was very glad to see that they definitely were. I still created a very strong, bold brow - just how I like mine to look - but they had a more natural finish to them. Usually, my brows only really 'come to life' after I've brushed some of the L'Oréal Brow Plumper through them, but these two pencils I found gave a more textured finished even by themselves. I really like the formula of the pencil itself and while the hardness of the pencil may have made it take a little more time to build it up, the finished result and overall longevity meant it was more than worth it. All in all, I think my old brow combination may well have to be pushed to the side - from now on there's a new duo on the block...
