'FACE' by Pixiwoo - The Perfect Book For Any Makeup Lover...

This post is a little different from anything else I've done before round these parts - a book review! While this may well be the first of its kind on Dainty Ditsy, I just felt like I needed to write this today as it's very much deserved. I have followed Sam and Nic Chapman (a.k.a the sister duo behind the YouTube channel 'Pixiwoo' and also the awesome Real Techniques makeup brushes that you all know I love) for what feels like the longest of times and I have to say that out of all the videos I watch on YouTube - theirs have to be amongst my favourites. Being fully trained makeup artists, I really value and appreciate their tutorials and always come away feeling like I've learnt something new. They both seem super lovely and down-to-Earth and I really admire not only their skill and talent in what they do but also their work ethic, determination and amazing success they've had so far as a result.

With all of that in mind, as soon as I first heard about the ladies releasing their very own makeup manual-style book - it's safe to say I was majorly excited and also fully prepared to grab my own copy. However, I also knew I wanted to wait until a potential Book Tour was announced, as I live in the same town that the sisters come from/are based in and so I was convinced that they was a pretty good chance that they would be stopping off there. Turns out, I was in luck and almost immediately after the dates were confirmed, I booked my place in the queue. This weekend, the time arrived and I got to meet the girls, have them sign my book (including a personalisation) and a little photo too! I must quickly say here also that the signing itself was wonderful. It was so calm and relaxed (but still very well organised) and was so much more in-depth than I was expecting. The time we got with the ladies didn't feel at all rushed and the ladies were just as lovely and friendly in 'real life' as they are in their tutorials.

Onto the book itself and the main 'review' of this post! Pretty much as soon as I got home from the signing, I opened up the book to give it a little read and a flick-through and I instantly fell in love. As I said, this is basically a massive compilation of all of Sam and Nic's expert makeup artistry knowledge and covers everything from selecting the right foundation for your skin type, to blending eyeshadow, to  and even touches on skincare and fake tanning too. It's also got a nice personal touch to it aswell, with biographies, childhood photos and a Q&A section and you can definitely tell from both how the book looks and reads the level of input they both have had in regards to putting it all together. It's a hefty book that's crammed to the brim with tips, tricks and advice and while it does go into major depth and detail; it's still very concise, straight to the point and easy to follow. The photography inside is insane - gorgeous shots with equally gorgeous makeup (all done by the sisters themselves of course) - and I think it strikes the perfect balance between being highly informative and aesthetically-pleasing at the same time. Can I say anymore good things about it?

If you haven't heard of Pixiwoo before (where have you been?) or maybe weren't aware of this book being released - I suggest you go into your local bookstore or pop over onto Amazon and pick it up, right now here. Such a lovely book that you can easily read all the way through or simply dip in and out of and certainly an essential for all the makeup obsessives out there. Whether you're simply a beauty lover, a complete newbie or perhaps you work professionally in the industry - I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Massive Congrats to Sam and Nic, you have done such an amazing, amazing job!

  1. I totally agree with you about the signing. I went to the one in Kent and it was a great experience.
