Another week, another liquid lipstick range that I've fallen head over heels for. For basically the entirety of last year I was seriously obsessed with them and it seems to be a trend that has carried over into 2017 too - I certainly can't see it stopping anytime soon, that's fo' sho'. Show me a lipgloss-type format housing a creamy formula that dries down to a powdery matte finish and I'm there. However, one version which I was super-eager to give a go last year that I never managed to get my hands on were the Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream's. These were probably the first, original offering from the drugstore in terms of liquid lippies and so of course, by the time I'd decided to give them a go (a good while after the hype first blew up) pretty much every single shade was completely out of stock everywhere and anywhere. Finally, however, in the last couple of weeks I came across a restocked shelf in my local Boots and taking full opportunity, picked up the two shades that I was eyeing-up the most...
And those were the two most 'nude'-toned hues in there range (surprise, surprise). Admittedly, there are a good few other more darker, bolder colours which have caught my eye aswell (the bright red, I'm looking at you), but as always when trying out a new lipstick range, I like to ease myself in gently and test out the classic, easy-to-wear shades that I'm likely to get the most chances to wear first off and then if I am a fan, I'll go back and stock up every other one which calls my name. So, kicking things off with the beigey, brown-toned neutral that first drew me into the collection - 'Birthday Suit'. Everyone went cray cray for this colour, making it one of the first to go out of stock and so inevitably, I am so glad to finally have one in my very own hands. There's something about hype that just builds the momentum of a product, raising your expectations higher and higher and just making you generally over-excited at the thought of it - and that is most definitely what happened with this liquid lipstick. I'd heard so, so many rave reviews that I just knew it had to be good - and you know what? It bloomin' well is. A pretty, pinky nude with just the right dose of brown in it to give it that undone, 90's-kinda vibe - but it's not too straight-up brown, if you get what I mean. It's pretty close to my natural lip colour, so acts as the perfect 'MLBB' and can be easily worn with virtually any makeup look. The other shade I picked up, 'Shabby Chic', is another lovely colour that sort of sits in a similar colour family bracket as 'Birthday Suit', but is just more of a deeper, darker nude. It's also got more of a purple, mauve-y undertone to it and while lipstick hues of that nature can typically lean a tad too cool-toned for my liking, somehow this is pretty neutral and so has that gorgeous, lilac base - but without completely deadening my complexion.
These liquid lipsticks have a lovely thin formula that easily glides onto the lips with no effort at all, feeling and looking slightly glossy for a moment before quickly drying down to a super-matte finish. They've got that powdery-matte texture to them, with no stickiness or tackiness left behind at all and so feel super comfortable and very lightweight on the lips - almost like you're wearing nothing at all. They apply evenly in one coat (though obviously to fully test this you'd need to try the bolder colours too) and wear pretty well throughout a full day of eating, drinking, general life - yanno what I mean - and aren't super easy to remove (not always a bad thing when you think of the whole purpose of liquid lipsticks, remember) but come away from the lips without needing to overly aggravate them in anyway. I like.
