Prime Time

Before this year, I wasn't particularly interested in the concept of primers or any form of makeup prolongers in general. Having quite dry skin, I find that makeup for the most part stays put fairly well anyway without any need for them. However, with my sister's wedding fast approaching a few weeks back, and with me being one of her bridesmaids, I decided I wanted to invest in a few extra steps to my makeup routine in order to ensure it would last the entirety of the day without smudging, flaking or just generally sliding off my face.

I decided to invest in two products that I'd heard many things about in the blogging community over the years I'd been following it - sometimes you just gotta believe the hype, yanno? They were Benefit's The POREfessional Primer and Urban Decay's Primer Potion in the original formula. Both were travel size as I thought these would be best in terms of travelling (The plan was to get ready round my sister's house) and being able to effectively sample without paying the full price tag. The Primer Potion I bought as a normal travel version from the Urban Decay stand and the POREfessional came as part of a Benefit set a selection of their minis.

I tried both out a couple of weeks before the big day and what can I say? I'm amazed by the difference both of these products made to the finish and longevity of my makeup. I'm confident most of the things I'm about to say have probably been said already but what the heck - I like them, a lot. POREfessional really does smooth out your skin, and given that you only use a miniscule amount (Some other reviews recommended this and they're right) it'll make your warpaint last longer and wear more evenly throughout the day. Urban Decay's offering too smoothes everything out - on the eyelid this time (sounds rather gross) - and dries out any oiliness so eyeshadows adhere much better. Before using this I often found darker, more pigmented shadows would after time crease on me, which was all rather frustrating, but a quick swipe of this and you're all ready to go.

My name is April and I am a primer convert.

  2. Maybe I'll do a post on how I use them at some point in the future, and I could include some before and after photos? x
