Tried and Tested: Nivea Sensitive Day Cream

Before trying the day cream in the Nivea Sensitive range I'd been painting my face in some Superdrug own brand. It was cheap, and to the most extent, cheerful - it managed to fulfil what I believed to be the primary purpose of a moisturiser - to moisturise my skin. Obvious, I know, but far too often do I try a product which seems to do everything but what it actually says on the tin. I liked it, so much so I bought the night version, but when I scrapped the last use out of my pot, I realised it was time to move on. There was a few too many occasions when it left my skin more greasy than glowing and sometimes I'd wake up in the morning after using the night cream with red, irritated cheeks - a sign that something wasn't quite right. So move on I did - to the Nivea Sensitive Day Cream - and after a thorough testing I wondered just how me and my ruddy, super sensitive skin managed without it.

After staring bewildered at the aisle for a while, this one seemed to jump out at me, predominately due to the claims it made. It claimed to reduce the three main signs of sensitivity - redness, tightness, and dryness. And I would completely agree with all three of those points. After using this cream for a prolonged time, I noticed a definite difference in the look and feel of my skin. With my skin being sensitive, I suffer from redness, particularly on my cheeks and my chin. This has been the main issue I've had with my skin since around the age of 13, when I hit puberty - no coincidences there I guess. Only last year I went to the doctor to see if I was actually suffering from rosacea, but thankfully I was told it was not and that it was simply something that would gradually disappear as I got older. Now looking back on that a year on, I must just say how much my skin and my feelings towards it have improved since. Of course I cannot be entirely sure that this cream is wholly responsible, considering what the doctor said, but there's a definite overlap of timing with my skin looking much more 'normal' and me changing up my skincare routine (I say that cause there's also been other changes to it which I will talk about in an upcoming post...)

Other than improving my sensitive skin, of course there are other benefits to this cream which I have really been enjoying. I find compared to my Superdrug one, this cream is better absorbed by my skin in terms of time and finish. It's absorbed far quicker and my skin doesn't feel as tacky afterwards - meaning a better base for makeup. It also contains an SPF of 15, and I personally look for SPF in all of my skincare - it's always a good idea to look after your skin, particularly on your face, and especially in the warmer months.

What's your favourite day cream at the moment?
