I'm a big fan of the original Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo thingymajigs. They're the only cream shadows I've tried as of yet, but I have to say that bar one *ahem 'Permanent Taupe'* I've been thoroughly impressed with all of them that I've picked up. It was on a recent trip to Superdrug on yet another mission to track down one of the brand's new Matte Pencils in 'Keep It Classy' that I saw another new product on the Maybelline stand. Their Colour Tattoos, only this time in a 'Leather Effect'.
They had only two shades available (I'm not sure if these are the only shades they've released so far or if they were the only ones Superdrug had) - 'Creamy Beige' (a nice, soft matte brown shade) and 'Vintage Plum' (you've guessed it; a deep plum shade). I picked up both, naturally, and headed home excited to try them both out.
I tried Creamy Beige out first the next day and was impressed at how, compared to most of the shades in the original Colour Tattoo formula I've tried, it was completely shimmer-free and so provides a completely 'clean' slate either on it's own or for whatever you fancy putting on top. 'Permanent Taupe', the only brown-hued matte in the normal range, I never found to suit my complexion and would always make me look like I'd been punched in both eyes. 'Creamy Beige', in comparison, is a much softer tone of brown, and so I found to get on with it much better. The shadow applied well, worked well either alone or as a good base for any powder shades to go over the top, and lasted all day without creasing.
The second shade, 'Vintage Plum', was more of a mixed bag in terms of my thoughts and opinions. What was a pretty plum shade in the pan translated as more of a brown-hued shade on the lids and was reminiscent of 'Permanent Taupe'. I found to work it back up to more of a purple shade I had to apply more layers, which doesn't really work in practicality. I also found this shade to be less 'creamy' in application and so whilst the staying power may be greater (although I was pretty impressed with how 'Creamy Beige' stayed put), the dryer finish just didn't do it for me. I did find that with a slightly shimmery shadow over the top the finish was much better and the colour 'popped' more, but I still think it's clear which shade I prefer.
Have you tried any of the shades from Maybelline's latest launch?
