Last week I was tagged by the lovely Mo from 'Everything Mo' (you can find her here: http://www.everythingelephant.blogspot.co.uk/) to do The Christmas Tag. Now I don't know whether this is a universal tag that does the rounds or if there's other versions out there but considering this was the one I was tagged to do, this is the one I'll be doing for you lot today!
As usual with Tags, I'll answer the set questions and then 'tag' some other bloggers that I love to do it too. So let's get on with it...
- What are your favourite Christmas movies? Now I'll be doing a post later this month all about a few of my top festive films and flicks that I like to watch this time of year so for now I'll keep it short. I have to say if I had to pick one favourite Christmas film it'd have to be 'Elf'. I know this probably ranks highly among many other people's film list, and I too just can't help but love it. It makes me laugh, has a lovely heart-warming plotline and is just nice and 'light' for this time of year. I guess pretty much everyone's watched it already but if you haven't - What are you doing? Watch it now!
- Do you open Christmas presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning? Definitely Christmas Morning! I don't think there's ever been a year when I've opened them on the day before Christmas - I didn't even know that was a 'thing'? I guess each to their own, but for me and my family personally, we like to assemble all the presents from the household under the tree on Christmas Eve and then go downstairs on the big day and excitedly tear them open.
- Do you have a favourite Christmas memory? Not any major ones in particular that I can think of. I have a few 'mini' memories that I've collected from various Christmases' over the years of things such as opening my presents or sitting down to have Christmas dinner, for example I can remember different parts of the last few Christmas Day's. I guess I don't really have a favourite cause most are the same sort of thing, but it's still nice to have those little recalls of the Christmases gone as I've grown up and it helps get me excited for Christmas this year too!
- Favourite festive food? NOW THAT IS A HARD ONE. I just love all Christmas-related food. Roast dinner, Christmas pudding, Christmas cake, mince pies - I just love it all. I think I'm gonna sneakily cheat a little on this one and mention a collective type of food - yes, really. I think my favourite (maybe) is the Pic 'n' Mix that my Mum lays out every Christmas night and then pretty much every lunchtime/dinnertime until it's all eaten up (this usually carries on well into January). This usually features dips, pickles, cheese and crackers, mini party food, homemade sausage rolls - I could go on. Mmmmhm. It's making my mouth water even writing about it now.
- Favourite Christmas gift? I don't think I really have one 'favourite' gift over the years. I think pretty much every year I've been so extremely happy with what I've received, big or small, and I always trust my family and friends to pick out stuff that they either know I've asked for or know I'd love. I think last years was a pretty good one - my parents went with a 'hair' theme and got me a new hairdryer and my own pair of straighteners which I've gone on to use absolutely loads over 2014 (who knew straighteners were so good for curling your hair?). I didn't have any idea they were getting me them (unlike some recent Christmases where I've had to go and help them pick something out) and I remember being really happy to finally have my own set of fully-functioning hair tools - lame, I know.
- Favourite Christmas scent? Again I don't know if I have one 'favourite' scent, I guess I just love the general 'smell' of Christmas if that makes any sense. I love the smell that you get on the actual day, like of the Turkey roasting in the oven, or the smell of the Christmas pudding in the slow cooker. I love the natural smell of Christmas as opposed to any particular artificial smells you can create from burning candles or something like that.
- Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions? Not really, my family doesn't really do anything in particular on Christmas Eve, as usually my parents work in the daytime (my Mum was usually the only one who had to though I think my Dad will be too). I guess we do have something that always happens every Christmas Eve - does cooking count? Every Christmas Eve my Mum always makes her homemade sausage rolls for the next day when she's come home from work and when I was younger I used to help her, though in recent years (what with me usually being preoccupied with painting my nails and watching the Miranda Christmas Special on repeat) I don't as much. I guess watching endless Christmas movies/specials is something I always do on the day before Christmas too ,with lots of snacks and a hot chocolate - lovely.
- What tops your tree? When I was really young I remember for a few years we always had a paper angel I made at first or middle school topping the tree though of course when I grew up a little that got replaced quickly! I think when we bought a larger tree we decided to go for something different (this was a good few years ago now). We went to a village called Holt near where we live and got a pretty gold star to go on the top and I remember my Dad having to cut some of the 'stump' at the top of the tree so it'd actually fit on it! I'm planning to do a post on my Christmas Decor sometime soon so maybe it'll make an appearance...
- As a child what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received? I can't think of anything really that I've asked for over the years that's been a little out of my parent's realms of possibility. There was always a few things in the Argos catalogue (ah good 'ole Argos - the source of many a child's Christmas list back in the day) that I was like 'Ooh Mum look at this' but I think it was taken more as a joke than anything. Not that I'm at all complaining, as I was always more than happy with whatever I received that year. I never particularly asked for anything major as I was always brought up to appreciate the littler things and the 'value' of the presents more than anything.
- What is the best part about Christmas for you? Cliché alert cliché alert. I think pretty much everyone would give this answer, but I'm gonna give it anyway. I love the togetherness of Christmas, how everyone gathers together and the 'warm' feeling you get because of it. I love receiving presents from my friends and family but I also love buying things for my loved ones and watching them open what I hope will be a lovely gift for them. I love the music, how everyone equally feels that little bit happier (Read: see end of answer) and how we can stuff our faces with Christmassy food and not feel an inch of guilt about it. Well, until January that is. What I don't love about Christmas how some people choose to turn it into a big stress and start punching others in the face over the last selection box.
So that just about wraps up (ya get it?) my Christmas Tag! Thank you ever so much again Mo for tagging me, and now it's time for me to do some tagging of my own!
