The Verdict Is In On Benefit's Roller Lash...

You know me - I'm not usually too fussy when it comes to my mascaras. not too long ago, I believed it to be unnecessary to favour high-end versions when there are equally, if not better, ones to be found in the depths of the drugstore. However, spurred on by my love for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (I still hate that name), I decided that it was finally time for me to try another luxurious lash offering that's been getting a fair bit of airtime this year - Benefit's Roller Lash...

I remember when this first came out how much people were raving about it - some even going so far as to imply how they favoured it over the other two mascaras Benefit already offer. I tried a sample-size of their last (and probably most iconic) lash launch - They're Real - sometime last year and I recall quite liking it, so I was dubious as to whether I'd love Roller Lash so much, as so many were suggesting that it's more of a mascara for those who didn't get the hype of They're Real or Bad Gal so much. However, I couldn't be more wrong.

The brush of Roller Lash itself contrasts heavily with They're Real - with the latter being much bulkier and more fibrous, whereas Roller Lash is far more thin and dinky and has a more compacted set-up. Typically, when mascaras are set out this way I tend not to enjoy them that much - I've always found Maybelline's The Rocket to not work particularly well on me on its own. Roller Lash somehow manages to defy this prospect though, and still manage to give amazing results. Personally, I'd describe Roller Lash as a straight-up 'lengthening' mascara, so if that's what you're after in your lashes - this is your guy. It does, however, still give some thickness to the lashes and a lifted, curly finish - something which often lengthening mascaras fail to achieve. The lashes look lovely and separated and fanned-out at the corners, but not so much that they have no impact to them. I find this is the kind of mascara that can be built up to a rather dramatic effect, or simply left as a One Coat Wonder, leaving the lashes more subtle, but still very pretty.

All in all - I think we can conclude that this gets the big thumbs up from me. As for how it compares with 'BTS' - I think they both give different effects to the lashes and while they're not particularly similar, I love how each of these performs and also how both can cover you completely from a natural lash look to more of a falsies-like finish. So, I guess the jury's out on that one. I'm calling it a draw...

  2. I've got the rollerlash and i'm so happy I gave into the hype and purchased it. I've used it solidly since April and it's only now that it's dried up. I think it'll be a repurchase but first I want to try 'better than sex' as that gets incredible reviews too. x

    1. I'm so happy I listened up on this one too! I'd definitely recommend giving 'Better Than Sex' a go as well though - both fab mascaras! X
