Remember those 'Seasonal Transition' posts I like to do round these parts every now and again, detailing some small tweaks you can make to your current makeup offerings to make it more appropriate for the changing climate? Yeah, they're the ones - and today I'm comin' at ya with the third instalment of this year - I know, how has that happened? If you fancy a catch-up of the other two I've already done (for Spring and Summer respectively, of course), you can find them here. So I guess with the concept of Autumn looming over us all again (and the heavy rain, cold-ness and generally 'meh' weather already supposedly kicking in), here goes...
LAYER UP - Of course, this can be taken as much in the literal 'It's-Autumn-so-I-now-need-more-than-just-a-t-shirt-on' way as in the more makeup-related one I'm thinking about. Whereas in Summer my base tends to be more light in coverage due to the warmer weather tending to make everything slip 'n' slide off my face, as the cooler climate begins to set in I like to switch things up a gear and generally slap more makeup on my face again. A slightly higher duty base comes out of the woodwork and there's more going on in other areas too - the eyes and lips departments especially.
A BIT OF EVERYTHING ON THE CHEEKS - In the Spring, I like to load on the blush for a fresh-faced look, whilst over the Summer months bronzer is where it's at for me, with me perhaps skipping the highlight in favour of my natural sweat-induced radiance providing me with more than enough glow - TMI? However, in Autumn I like to kinda do a bit of everything. For me, I like to continue loading up on the bronzer as my complexion begins to get paler (if that's even possible) with the lack of sunlight; while highlight adds back that glow that the warmer weather used to take care of too and blush mimics that natural flush you get to your cheeks each time you're exposed to the cool, fresher air. So I guess that's my advice - go for a bit of everything cheeks-wise (in careful measures, of course).
DARE TO GO BOLD - Now, another thing with Autumn has to be the fact it's kinda a benchmark for all the incomings of darker, richer tones in the makeup arena. Of course Winter is probably where they come out in full-force, but there's definitely a switch around this time of year where the peachy-pinky, golden shimmer-laden looks of the previous season are traded in for ones centred more around the rouge, berry and rusty hues of the colour spectrum. And I'd say just to fully embrace this with open arms. Crack out your tarnished shadows, purple-tinged kohls and red lippies and go to town. Perhaps not all at once though.

PAINT THE TOWN RED/BERRY/ANY OTHER AUTUMN-RELATED COLOUR - Going alongside the above point are the tones in question that I've already mentioned briefly. You've got your reds, berries and then your shades that pull slightly orange-y once applied. These all are very reminiscent of Autumn as a whole so help give a nod to the season and also help us neutral lovers to incorporate some well-needed colour into our makeup menus at long last. For eyes - I love a nice rogue-toned shadow all over the lid with a slightly darker straight-up brown worked into the outer corner and crease; for lips - there really is nothing that beats a good berry lip. Rimmel 107 is a classic amongst us beauty obsessors for a reason, yanno.
DARK TIPS - Finishing off this Autumn Edit is the inclusion of the nail beds and pondering the question of what they could perhaps be rocking this season. While I love to go for a good pastel in the Spring, transitioning into more of a straight-up bright over the Summer - as we head into Autumn I love to go completely the other way and go dark. Not too dark - I like to save more of my richest shades for the Winter months and festive season - but I do like to start experimenting more with the deeper hues of my collection and the beginnings of Autumn certainly give the green light to that...
