It's time for the final instalment of my 'Seasonal Transition' posts for this year! Remember those? The ones where I detail some small tweaks you can make to your current makeup offerings to make it more appropriate for the changing climate? Yeah, they're the ones - and today I'm comin' at ya with The 'Winter' Edition. If you fancy a catch-up of the other three I've already done (for Spring, Summer and Autumn respectively, of course), you can find them here. With Winter well and truly here to stay, expect some suggestions based around the now-very-cold climate and festive season...
A FLAWLESS BASE - I feel like towards this time of year, it becomes the time to upgrade your base a little. As I said in the Autumn Transition post (here), I like to gradually up my game in this department as the weather slowly gets cooler and start to go for slightly higher coverage bases. Once the warmer weather has disappeared and with that so has the opportunity for it to make makeup melt off my face, I find I can get away with a heavier duty base, however in Winter I feel this just becomes even more prominent in my makeup routine. The weather is even cooler, and as we approach Christmas, everyone wants their makeup to look as flawless as possible for events and photos. With this comes taking more time with the other aspects of my base - ensuring I fully conceal any blemishes and brighten my under-eye area; and perhaps applying a tad more powder to set everything in place and add to the 'flawless' effect.
ALL THAT GLITTERS - Moving onto the fun part and this really is kinda an obvious one, but an essential nonetheless. For me, this time of year just screams 'Glitter'. With the festive season in full swing, it's the perfect time to crack out your shimmery formulas from all categories of your makeup (although perhaps not all at once). I love going a little heavier with the highlight in Winter, as not only does it tie in nicely with this theme, but it also adds a lovely healthy glow back into your skin that no doubt it is seriously lacking. For eyes, it's all about the golden shades for me, which I love layering up on in eyeshadow form for a full-on festive, brightening effect (more on that later), however you can also get glittery liners if a pop of colour at the lashline is more your kinda thang. Lips-wise, if gloss is up your street, then I'm sure there are glosses packed with the shimmery stuff out there, perfect for layering on top of lipsticks to add that touch of Christmas sparkle or simply worn alone. And then, for nails - you know the drill - the more sparkle, the better. But if all-over shimmer isn't your thing, maybe try an ombre/dip dye effect, graduating it to be heavier towards the tips of your nails so it's a little more subtle (or as subtle as you can be with glitter).
GO FOR GOLD - Like I said above, it's just the ideal colour for this time of year - going hand in hand with all things festive and once again adding back that vibrancy and making you look very awake indeed. Whilst during the majority of the year I like to lean more 'bronze' with my golds when it comes to eye makeup, in Winter I go for the true, yellow-y hues that are much more festive season-appropriate and give that nod to Christmas without being too 'out there'. However, if it is still a little too much for your tastes, perhaps try doing your usual eye makeup and simply adding a touch to the inner corner as a little highlight. Simples.

RED OR NUDE NAILS - And finally, onto nails (my personal favourite when it comes to this season). While I touched earlier on layering up on the glitter as soon as Winter hits, for those of you who prefer something a little more on the classy side (although, who says glitter can't be classy, eh?) and like your nails shimmer-free, I'd recommend going one of either ways - red or nude. Two extremes, but I find them to be the two shades I reach for the most around this time of year as they just seem to fit in with the festive theme the best. Red adds a simple nod to the season to a plainer outfit; while a nude is ideal for making less of a statement on the nails when you're going all-out and also works well as a neutral base for glitters.
KEEP IT CLASSIC - Onto more of a general tip, and that would be to keep it classic. Like I said, this is the time of year where there's usually a camera at every turn and you're likely to be invited to your fair share of festive gatherings - so you want to kinda stick to your usual fare and not experiment too much. Perhaps try out some of the suggestions from this post, decide what's right for you and then stick with it throughout the season - cracking it out at every opportunity, knowing it will look just as you want it to when the Facebook photos inevitably crop up. You know what I mean...
