Yes I know, I know - you may well be thinking 'Haven't I seen this post before?' and I guess you'd kinda be right. Sometime back in 2014 when I first started this 'ere blog, I started this very series where I focused on a particular beauty-based brand for an entire post, picking out five of my top picks from it as we went along. However, when going through some of my early posts the other day (#CringeFest) I realised that there are a few 'Beauty Brand Favourites' from the very beginning that I looked through and feel are a little out of date. There's products in there I perhaps don't love as much anymore and others which I've discovered since that would happily take their place given the opportunity. And I guess what I'm doing today is the first of those. It's time for the first 'Beauty Brand Favourites: Revisited'. And to kick things off, I'm talking all things Maybelline...
24 Hour Colour Tattoo Gel-Cream Eyeshadows - Admittedly, despite what I've just said about how I wanted to make this post in order to update it, this first product isn't the best example of that as it did infact feature back in that post too (here) - I guess that must be a testament to how much I love them, eh? These are a cult classic for Maybelline, as pretty much everyone and their dog owns and loves at least one of them - including myself. From what I know, they were the first cream shadows to enter the drugstore market and as far as I'm concerned, they remain the best in my opinion. They're perfect for use alone as an all-over easy everyday colour, but also equally good at providing the ideal base for your standard powder eyeshadow to layer over the top of - prolonging wear-time, keeping things in place and adding that extra punch of pigmentation. I have plenty of shades in a variety of formulas and love them all and if you are one of the very few who is yet to give them a go, I strongly suggest you pop one (or two) in your basket next time you're in Boots.
The Nudes/Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palettes - More for the eyes, and this is a serious love. I knew when I was compiling this post together that this range of palettes just had to feature as it's certainly been one of my favourite discoveries from the past year - the former especially. Out of all the nude eyeshadow palettes I've tried, these two are my favourites without a shadow of a doubt. You get a mighty twelve shades, all in a wide variety of neutral hues which I love equally (no 'fillers' to be seen here); with a seriously kick-ass formula. These shadows are buttery and creamy, making them easy to apply and blend and with no fall-down in sight and when worn on top of my usual Urban Decay Primer Potion, last all day long on the lids. The latter palette I really rather like too, this time being based around more pinky tones that are great for those of us who want to experiment with out neutrals a little more. Same packaging set-up, same formula, same bloomin' awesome affordable eyeshadow palette. Can I rave about these two little beauties anymore?
Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara - Finally for the peepers is a mascara and while in my earlier edition, I labelled the 'Falsies Volum' Express' Mascara as my personal favourite lash offering from Maybelline, this time round I've got one which in my opinion, knocks it completely off the top spot. Everytime I try and describe this mascara I feel I fail to do it justice as I find it difficult to pinpoint a certain reason why it's so great. It simply gives me pretty darn awesome lashes. There's length, there's volume, there's lift and separation and the formula (whilst not waterproof) stays put, holds a curl and doesn't smudge or flake anywhere you don't want it to. I also find this to be much more of a 'instant effect' mascara (as in it doesn't take much or any 'breaking in' before it does a good job) in comparison to the Falsies, which does take a while before it reaches its full potential. I love pretty much all Maybelline mascaras I try, but this one certainly gets pride of place as my favourite of the lot.
Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils - Onto lips and I have one product that stands out for me as a favourites from Maybelline. Last time it was their 'Baby Lips' lip balms - which while I still like, are admittedly used much less than they were at that time - and now we have more of a proper lip colour on our hands. I really love a good lip crayon, and these have to be my personal favourite I've tried so far. many cite these a great dupe for the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, and although I've never samples any of those before, if these ones from Maybelline are anything to go by - I certainly will need to pick up one to try at some point in the future. They have a matte formulation, though as the name suggests, it's more of a 'velvet' effect as opposed to being completely matte matte and so have all the benefits of a traditional matte lipstick (long-lasting, less fuss/mess), though still feels comfortable and not at all drying on the lips.
Super Stay Forever Strong 7 Day Nail Polishes - And last but certainly by no means least are this range of nail polishes, which (unless you've been living under a rock for the past year) you will no doubt have been expecting to crop up in this post at some point as you'll know already how much I love, love, LOVE them. Alongside my Rimmel Salon Pro's, they are by far my favourite nail polish formulation I've ever come across. The brush is my favourite kind - flat, wide and slightly curved at the edges - so fits in the nail perfectly and means you only need a maximum of three swipes to coat the whole bed. The formula itself is also a winner; leaving an opaque finish in two coats (sometimes even just one) and a gel-like effect which is super shiny and really dopes live up to its '7 Days' claim. Like seriously, these lacquers just last, and last and last. They come in a gorgeous selection of colours and I cannot wait to pick up some more Spring/Summer appropriate shades once the warmer weather begins to make an appearance. Come on, we all knew that was gonna be one heck of a rave...
