I've done a fair few posts during my time as a writer of this 'ere blog centred around giving my tips 'n' tricks on various topics - and if there's one area I've always wanted to cover, it's 'Eyeliner'. Not because I consider myself an expert on the subject, but of all the different makeup categories, it's forever the one which people seem to seek the most guidance on (myself included). As I always like to preface these kinds of posts, these are by no means a definitive list of pointers (like I said, I'm no eyeliner specialist), but simply some things that I've learnt along the journey of getting to grips with eyeliner which I've found really useful and hopefully some of you lovely lot may do too. Let's get into it...
PICK YOUR TEAM - Much like some of the other makeup departments I've given my personal advice on in the past, one of my first initial tips is to work out what your preferences are and choose the 'type' of product you wish to get to grips with. Is it your standard pencil or kohl for an everyday dose of definition? Or do you finally want to nail that feline flick by getting your head around liquid or gel formulas? Once you know what you're dealing with, the whole process becomes a hell of a lot easier (I promise)...
EASE YOURSELF IN - Whatever 'team' you fall into (or at least want to align yourself with at some point down the line), I'd definitely recommend easing yourself in and perhaps beginning with the traditional pencil set-up whether that's as far as you wish to take your eyeliner journey or not. They're fairly easy to get your hands on and pick out (simply choose your brand and colour and you're good to go) and mistakes are much easier to correct - and if not, a less-than-perfect line isn't so much of a big deal when working with a pencil/kohl formula. It's a win, win all round...
GET EQUIPPED - Tackling eyeliner requires certain tools to come into play - especially when starting out as a newbie. Going from past experience, you're gonna need some good (preferably pointed) cotton buds and some Micellar Water to correct any mistakes and if you fancy getting to grips with gel or really easing yourself into it by beginning with using eyeshadow as a liner - a small, tightly-packed angled brush is most certainly gonna come in handy.
TIGHTLINING - Ah yes, that old chestnut. To any of you reading this who haven't heard of this before - you're probably thinking 'what?', but to those of you who have - you'll most definitely know what I mean. Sounds gross, is pretty gross to actually carry out - but works a darn treat. Basically, I'm talking when you take a hard, waterproof pencil liner and rub it on your inner waterline under your lashes. It ties everything together and eliminates any peeks of flesh which kinda spoil the illusion that liner is intended for.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT - Another tip I might have used for a different makeup arena, but I really feel like with any area of makeup that you're wishing to get to grips with - it's all about the practicing. Maybe it won't necessarily make 'perfect' (at least not instantly), but you will certainly see improvements the more you do it over time and before long you'll be winging like a master. Just you wait and see...
So there are just some of my own tips I've gradually picked up on over the years for finally getting your head around eyeliner - and perhaps attempting it yourself. Have I missed anything out which any of you proper pro's know about? Let me know...
