Pink Eyeshadow? Yes, Really... #EveryDayMay

Hear me out on this one. I feel like as soon as Spring and Summer start to make an appearance (for however long that may be), my eye makeup begins to switch up a little. Out go the deeper, darker hues and in come the light golds, champagnes and pinks. Yes, you read that right - pink. I've been loving pink eyeshadow for a long, long time and I'm not sure if it's something I've ever discussed in detail round these parts before so today that's exactly what I'm gonna do. Fancy some product recommendations and general tips on how to make the whole prospect a tad less intimidating? Here we go...

One of my favourite pink shadows comes from Maybelline and it is one of their 24 Color Tattoo Gel-Cream Eyeshadows in the shade 'Pink Gold'. This has been in my collection for years now and is still to this day one of the first items I turn to when I want to add a rosey tint to my lids. It's a lovely light pink, but as the name suggests, has a gorgeous golden sheen running through it which makes it uber-wearable and very pretty on the eyes for a light, fresh Summer look. As with all cream shadows, this can be simply washed all over the lid and worn alone, or utilised as a base for other pinky hues to be applied on top and it works equally well for both.

In terms of palettes, the L'Oreal Color Riche Eyeshadow Quad in 'Eau De Rose'. I think this is actually no longer available for some reason - sorry to be a bit of tease! - but I wanted to include it anyway as it is genuinely still one of my top palettes for when I want to create a more pink-toned eyeshadow look. This has four stunning shades - as the name implies - and inside you get three varying pinky, peachy hues and one beautiful burgundy. Personally, in the Summer I tend to get the most use out of the three lighter shades but the plum-toned shadow does come in handy for smoking things out a little if I fancy it and I also find it helps make the pink eyeshadow slightly less obvious and a lot more wearable too. If you're after something you can actually get your hands on yourself (which, let's be honest, you probably are) then the Fleur De Force Eyeshadow Quad in 'Lunar Rose' is pretty similar and just as gorgeous. This quad comes with a stunning rose gold shade which just looks all kinds of beautiful washed all over the lid as one of those awesome 'one wash wonders' which are always good to have on hand in your collection - especially when tackling shadows with a pinky-tone.

So you've got your heart set on rocking pink eyeshadow, what tips 'n' tricks would I suggest on how to go about it? Always remember that pink doesn't have to be proper, full-on, out there pink. As you can probably see from my suggestions above, you can give a subtle nod to the rosy hue without going too 'out there' and it still being very much wearable and everyday-friendly. I'd also say that mascara is key. Whenever you apply red-based tones to your eyes, it can look a little like your peepers are just a tad sore if you're not careful and I always find a hell of a lot of mascara works a treat in this situation. It'll bring the look together, make your features more prominent and make you look more awake too. Last but certainly by no means least is my final tip and that is to use a nude liner on your waterline. Just like the mascara hack, this will again help to diffuse any 'will I just look like I've got pink eye?' worries, instantly cancelling out any redness already pre-existing in your peepers and once again making you look far more alive. And isn't that what we all want, eh? Pink eyeshadow - sorted.
