Tried and Tested: Primark Beauty Super Matte Liquid Lipsticks

There always seems to be 'trends' when it comes to YouTube videos and one which is proving to be rather popular right now are the 'Testing Primark Makeup' ones. In recent months, Primark have really gone for it when it comes to their beauty section; with products being revamped and repackaged or launched for the first time entirely. As you may remember, a couple of months back (in this post here) I bought a few bits 'n' bobs from the range and gave them a go and for the most part, I had pretty good success with my purchases. Since then, everytime I've popped into my local store, I've had a peruse around the beauty section to see if anything new and exciting has arrived and this time, I was in luck...

I spotted the 'Super Matte Liquid Lipsticks', hidden away in the back of the lip product department. With the liquid lipstick formula being a huge thing right now, I guess it's no real surprise that Primark have jumped on the bandwagon too. I wanted to pick some up for a post so I could try them out for you lovely lot; see how they work in terms of a liquid lipstick, how they are in comparison to the others I have, how they apply and most importantly - how they last. From what I could see - as with many of the Primark pout products - there was a very limited amount of shades in an equally-limited range of hues. I could only spot three on display - a beige-toned nude, bright pink and dark plum - and with me fully embracing the neutral tones at the moment, I opted for the former two. If you'd be wanting to hunt this range down for similar tones, I guess you may be satisfied, but if you're after a red or even a more specific nude shade - you'll likely come away disappointed. Hopefully, it's something Primark will expand on in the future!

Onto the actual review and as I said, I picked up the two lighter shades - 'Nude' (a true nude shade, would you believe?) and 'Pink' (a bright, slightly coral-toned pink). These clock in at just £2.00 each (TWO POUNDS!), so definitely the cheapest liquid lipsticks I've come across so far - but despite the price and the fact that Primark is generally a cheaper brand - I wanted to push that all aside for this review and simply focus on the product itself. I know that pricepoint can sometimes determine the quality of a product, but there are still those occasions when you come across an item which is all kinds of awesome and yet comes in at a fraction of the price of its higher-end alternative. As for these liquid lipsticks, though - I'm undecided.

They apply really easily and evenly in just one layer and dry down to that classic matte, matte finish in no time at all. There's no hint of a sheen to be seen (ah, poet and I didn't know it) - it's a true shine-free effect. Because of said finish, they do inevitably cling to the texture of my lips, but while they do look dry on the 'ole pout - they certainly don't feel extremely so. I've certainly applied liquid lippies which feel more moisture-zapping than these ones. Due to them being completely matte, they feel rather comfortable to wear as they dry down really effectively, with no stickiness left behind. I guess the main issue I have with these is the longevity. Considering the fact that the main plus point of liquid lipsticks is supposedly that they hang around on your lips all day long, I don't find this to be the case with these. Sure, they stay put alright when left alone, but when you don't - not so much. Drinking doesn't disrupt things as much, but eating certainly does. After a full meal, it had pretty much all worn away, something which doesn't happen with any other liquid lipsticks I own. With those, there's a little wear and tear throughout the day which you'd need to touch up, but with these Primark ones, it was more a case of a full reapplication. For that, I might aswell wear a normal lipstick which lasts just as long and still hydrates my lips and looks a tad more forgiving.

So, a kind of mixed bag with these liquid lipsticks from Primark. While I love the way they work when it comes to application and finish - they don't hold up that much as for acting in the way I'd expect a liquid lippie to. I think for times when I know that there's no way they'd be disrupted, I'd use them, but if I wanted a proper liquid lipstick which lasts and lasts throughout the whole day - these aren't the ones. For £2 each, I guess you can't complain as in many ways they perform the same as more expensive alternatives, but as I said, if you're looking for longevity - perhaps look elsewhere.
