It's September. How, I do not know, but here we are - in the ninth month of the year already. For many people, September represents the start of the new school year and just generally going 'Back To School' and I figured it might come in handy for me to share a couple of my suggestions for a makeup look which is perfect for this time of year. Personally, I am very much 'done' when it comes to school, having finished proper school three years ago (how?!) and Sixth Form last summer, but I know that something along these lines would've come in pretty useful so hopefully, it may just for you lovely lot too. Whatever stage of school you may be in ('normal' school, college, uni) or even if you're at work - this is just the kind of look which ought to see you through...
For base, I think for the most part, it's all a case of preference but ultimately - it's probably best to stick to something light. For some of you, you may not need anything to go all-over at all and so can skip straight on over to concealer; whilst others may like just a light coverage to even things out a tad. Tinted moisturisers are a great choice, or even a BB/CC/DD/you get the idea cream but if foundation is your thing - I'd highly recommend the L'Oréal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. This feels uber-lightweight on the skin and gives a light layer of coverage - while still unifying things nicely. It's not too insubstantial - yanno? The finish leaves a pretty, dewy finish to the complexion without making you look greasy and it hangs around too - perfect for long days. Concealer-wise, I'm sure this one's pretty obvious to most of you - the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer is my go-to. It's super creamy and easy to blend, covers everything - bags, blemishes, redness; you name it - without looking heavy or cakey and once set into place, lasts all darn day. Talking of setting things into place - powder. Again, this may be a case of personal preference as you may feel like you need powder, or you may not. Personally, while I do have drier skin, I always like to lock my makeup into place and powder any areas where things tend to wear away or I simply don't want a glowy look and for that recently I've been reaching for the MUA Skin Define Hydro Powder. This comes in at a super-inexpensive price and does the job at mattifying my skin without making things cake up and as far as I can tell, is transparent so doesn't disrupt the rest of my base makeup. Lovely.
Onto the finishing of the face, this is again a bit of a grey area as everyone has different priorities in terms of what they most like. Everyone generally seems to be a fan of highlighter right now and in terms of bronzer and blush - some people like both, while others may just be a blush gal or a bronzer gal. I definitely fall into the latter category and certainly prefer to bronze myself up rather than add a pop 'o pink to my cheeks but of course - it is up to you. Whatever you do, again, keep it light and fresh and more on the natural side and you should get on just fine. Lately, I've been loving the Rimmel Natural Bronzer for adding that golden glow, with the colour complementing my paler skintone perfectly and it never looking too much; while the Sleek Highlighter Palette in 'Solstice' has some gorgeous shades inside for adding some radiance to the high points of your face and while they are all super-pigmented, you can easily keep things pared back by using a lighter hand. In regards to contouring, personally, I would avoid it so as to not look too overdone and made up, but if you do want to give your face some extra dimension - the Collection Precision Contour Stick in 'Light' is a cream formulation, meaning you can really mesh it in with your skin and the colour has a lovely ashy tone, meaning it never looks overly obvious. Draw it on, blend it out with your brush (or even your fingers) - done.
Eyebrows are probably the most personal thing of the whole look as it is entirely down to what you have naturally and in general, what kind of look you tend to like from your brows. As you lovely lot know, I am not in anyway blessed with full face framers so no matter the look - I always fill them in - and to do that I use my trusty L'Oréal Brow Artiste Pencil in 'Blonde', Soap and Glory Archery Brow Pencil in 'Hot Chocolate' and my L'Oréal Brow Artiste Plumper in 'Medium/Dark'. I then move onto my eyes and whenever I want to go for an uber-natural finish, I will for a soft, 'contoured' eye. I always like to still have some definition going on and though in some cases I opt for a soft, blendable kohl pencil along my upper lashline; when I want things as undetectable as they can be - a nice, well-blended eyeshadow look does the trick. On the lid, I like to go for a super barely-there, bone shade and you can probably find this type of colour in matte form in any eyeshadow palette (I personally love the one from Maybelline's The Nudes Palette) or if shimmer is more your thing, you could even utilise one of the paler shades from the highlighting palette. I then like to take my bronzer (again, used above) and run it gently through my outer corner and slightly through the crease (but mainly on the outer corner) to give my eyes some more depth. Bronzer as eyeshadow is an old tip that I learnt way back when - but trust me - it really works and saves on time in the morning.
Last but certainly by no means least - lips. For this, I'd recommend either a balm or gloss to keep things fresh and moisturised throughout the day and generally a little more natural-looking. Maybelline's Baby Lips are a great choice if you want to plump for the former - coming in a huge variety of shades and scents and with a really lovely hydrating finish. Gloss-wise, both the Tanya Burr Cosmetics and Fleur De Force's Lip Glosses are equally awesome. They aren't at all sticky, come in a heck of a lot of hues and actually have a decent amount of pigment to them (unlike some lip glosses out there). And they smell rather delicious too, let's be honest...
