Highlighter, highlighter, highlighter. Everyone really has gone all kinds of cray cray for the stuff as of late and I have to admit - I count myself in on that one too. Only a few years back the art of contouring and sculpting your face to oblivion was all the rage, while nowadays we all seem super-eager to look as glowing and radiant as possible and of course - highlighter is the main rite of passage for exactly that. Formula-wise; powders, creams and liquids are the main trio of textures and of them all, the latter has to be the most versatile of them all. And here's why...
TO PRIME THE SKIN - Liquid illuminators are very similar in formula and texture to a illuminating primer - so they can be used in pretty much the same way too. Take a pump and disperse across your whole bare face for all-over radiance, or apply on the high points only for a more specific glow which will shine through whatever you put over the top.
TO USE AS A MIXING MEDIUM FOR YOUR BASE PRODUCTS - Of course, one major benefit of liquid products is their ability to be mixed into other formulas. Got a matte foundation which you fancy giving a sheen-ier look? Want to give some extra under-eye radiance-boosting power to your concealer? Grab your liquid highlighter and add as much or as little as your want until you reach your desired level of glow.
TO HIGHLIGHT (OBVS) - Now, this is kinda the more obvious one of the lot but nevertheless - it has to be said. Use your liquid illuminator exactly as it's intended to be on the tin and add some light back into your complexion just as your usually would do with a highlighter. With highlighting being such a massive thing right now, I'm sure you all know the usual suspects by now - tops of the cheekbones, under the brows, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow - done.
TO ACT AS A BASE FOR YOUR EYE MAKEUP - Back onto the more unusual uses of the lot and one which I discovered a while back which I really rather like. Take the tiniest amount between your fingertips and disperse onto your lids to prime and add a ouch of illumination too. Not only does it act as a great base for your eyeshadow, the touch of glow really shines through the rest of your eye makeup and adds a bit more life to an exclusively-matte look.
TO ADD SOME GLOW AND PLUMPNESS TO YOUR LIPS - Last but certainly by no means least is this lil' suggestion for the ol' lips. Just like the rest of your face, adding some highlighter to the high points (centre) of your lips instantly gives the illusion of more prominence and so in this case - makes your lips look far juicer and fuller. If using a matte finish on your lips all-over, adding this touch of shimmer right in the middle is even more effective if you're really after that Kylie Jenner look...
