I love trying new makeup and these last couple of weeks, I have most definitely been doing exactly that - all from Revolution! And though I definitely feel like I've found a handful of new favourites, there's a couple of products in particular that unfortunately, I am not so impressed with...
I was actually lucky enough to receive their Countdown To NYE Advent Calendar for Christmas and so far, I've definitely got a few favourites from the assortment of products within it - hence why they make up the majority of the items included of this post. The first fave is the Reloaded Eyeshadow Palette in 'Imperative'. A gorgeous, all-shimmer colourway of one of their best, most affordable eyeshadow palettes - what's not to love? As I said, this is packed full exclusively of shimmer shadows in all range of colours and tones and so far, I'm very impressed. These apply super easily, are very pigmented and metallic on the lids and don't create too much fall-out either. Pair with some matte shadows from another palette and you're good to go! One other stand-out fave from this calendar so far is definitely the Lustre Light Highlighting Palette in 'Warm'. We all know I love a good highlighter and so far, this collection of them is impressing me a lot. I haven't really used the two deeper shades much so far as they're obviously not so much geared towards my skin-tone, but the two lighter colours which I have been playing with a lot are awesome. They're super pigmented and blinding, but also aren't overly glittery or chunky in any way on the skin. They just give such a smooth, but still super-glowy sheen - which is what we always want, right? Then, finally from this calendar, I have actually been really loving a lipgloss - namely, the Lipgloss in'Begin'. I know, who am I?! It's no secret that for the most part, I am a matte lip kinda gal. Unless I'm wearing a super-nude lip (and even then, matte lips are mostly my go-to), I tend to gravitate towards exclusivity matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks for my pout - however, I gave this gloss a go nevertheless and so far, I'm actually really liking it. This is basically like my perfect 'MLBB'-type colour that's almost identical to my natural lip hue, just a little deeper and richer and so, perfect for me - someone who would only ever wear gloss when it's a nude colour - and the formula of this is pretty nice too. I used to think glosses of being very goopy, sticky and heavy-feeling on the lips but this one is none of those things. I think lip glosses did used to be that way, but over time they've naturally progressed - so maybe I should start giving them more of a chance?
So, we've talked about the good'uns and the general gems that I've found, but I do need to just give a bit of a mention to a couple of things that I'm not so much of a fan of. Only one thing from that calendar actually in here as the other, though not so much of standout faves like the others, from what I've tried of them, they're not bad - apart from one. They included a Liquid Eyeshadow and at first, it was one of the products I was most excited to try. However, when put into practice, unfortunately it just didn't seem to work very well. It applied from the doe foot applicator easy-peasy and very pigmented, but as soon as I went in to gently buff the edges (as I normally do with any liquid or cream eyeshadows in order to create a seamless blend with the matte shades I lay down in the crease/outer corner first) it all kinda went wrong. The shadow started to lift and almost crumble off and I also found that as the shadow dried, it created a very dry, textured look on my lids too. Compared to how my favourites liquid and cream shadows work and look, this just isn't my favourite at all, I'm afraid! Then, the other kinda 'fail' product that I tried recently from Revolution (which is always a surprise for me as I tend to like a lot of their releases) is their Glow Revolution Glow Spray in 'Eternal Gold'. Now, I guess it's debatable as to how you'd class this as a 'fail' as the product itself I really like. However, the packaging - I do not. I gave this a couple of go's and I was actually really happy with it. I tried this out both before and after makeup application and the mist was nice and fine, yet deposited a good amount of product onto the skin and it gave a definite glowy look, without leaving any massive, chunky glitter particles behind. However, when I cam to use it for the third time - the nozzle/spray had broke. I couldn't get any product out and though I tried to declog the nozzle, it stayed the same way. Basically, I love the product inside, but hate the packaging set-up and can't get any product out anymore because of it. I'm currently in the process of hopefully getting this situation rectified, so fingers crossed I'll get it sorted out soon! Until then, though, I'm afraid I'll have to give this one a bit of a 'thumbs down' right now. *Sad face*...
I'm with you on packaging, when the packaging fails, the products is a dud for me.
ReplyDeleteI lost interest in MUR for a while but I'm becoming more open to them again, I think for a while we had too many copies etc

Agree - a good product has to have good packaging. Doesn't necessarily have to super-pretty, but definitely has to be functional. You should definitely give Revolution another go, they've got so many good products out at the moment! X
