Over the years of writing this blog, I've shared various ways I've stored my makeup. In terms of my 'excess' makeup, it's gone from a more 'modestly-sized' collection that I could easily house in a smaller acrylic set of drawers, to purchasing an iconic set of IKEA Alex 9 Drawers when my makeup started expanding - however in term of my current 'everyday' picks and most-used products, my storage system has generally stayed the same. For the past few years, on top of a dresser in my bedroom, I've always had what I like to call, a 'makeup station'. Starting with some (also infamous) MUJI Acrylic Drawers when I needed somewhere to properly store my main makeup products - and I guess it's just grown from there, just like my 'overflow' system! The last update that I posted here featured a new 'mini station' that I picked up from Primark to house a few 'odds and sods' that I had kicking around and nowhere to properly home them - like my tweezers, eyelash curlers, beauty sponge and so on. But, recently, I've been thinking about actually adding some more acrylic drawers onto the set-up...
For so, so long I've had those three MUJI sets (2 x 2 Drawers, 1 x 3 Drawers), all stacked on top of each other at one end of my dresser - and that's suited me just fine. However, lately I've wondered about adding some others at the other side. Both to balance things out a little more (I have an acrylic nail polish stand sitting in the middle) but also, to hopefully add more storage too! Not necessarily for my 'main' stash of products that I have, but more so to allow for newer additions. I was thinking about having all of my MUJI Drawers to hold the majority of my 'everyday' favourites and go-to's of that moment and then, having a new set of drawers at the other side to house any new products I'm going to or am in the process of trying out at that moment. I have a drawer in my IKEA Alex where I hold any products I've bought and have yet to try (and a drawers full of new repurchases of old favourites at the back) but in terms of new products that I am then wanting to get started on using and testing, I felt a little lost as to where to put them. So, I eventually settled on buying some more clear drawers to hopefully sort that problem out. Plus, I ordered enough so I'd have some more space for my 'main 'makeup stash too!
When they finally arrived it's safe to say I was so, so excited to finally put my idea into reality and I think it turned out pretty well - even if I do say so myself. First off, considering these drawers were not actual, 'proper' MUJI ones - I think they look rather good. Like, pretty much identical to the real deal that I already own. So, they blend in well with the rest of my acrylic storage system, which is always a good thing. They also feel similar in terms of quality aswell! Like I said, I ordered two drawer sets, comprising of three drawers each - so I had a total of 6 new storage areas to play with. In the end, I decided to stack them on top of each other and utilise the top three for any 'leftovers' of my makeup collection that I keep on the other side of my dresser and then the bottom three drawers for my 'New In' Collection - Stuff I'm going to or am in the process of trying and testing out! And so far, I think it's working well. I ended up carrying all of my 'Lips' over to that top section as I felt that was the best way to use the space and I've currently got a few products in the bottom three drawers that I am going to try very soon, or have even started doing so now! Definitely keep your eyes peeled as they'll all no doubt be featured round these parts at some point soon!
So I guess there we have it - my brand new storage system for my dresser, a.k.a - my 'Makeup Station'! I'm so happy with how this little refurbish turned out. Not only do I have more space, I also finally have a designated area for all of the new products I'm going to try very soon or am in the process of testing! Having already got an are for any new stuff I've bought to be stashed away in my IKEA Alex, it's nice to have kind of a 'halfway' point where I'm actually going to start to use it, but still want to keep it separated from my main collection. Yay!
