Polish Pick: Barry M Crystal Rocks Textured Nail Paint in 'Tiger Eye'

One of my favourites things when shopping in the drugstore is when I spot a brand new nail polish range from Barry M. Having tried and (usually) loved so many collections from them over the years, I can't help but be super excited when I see they've launched yet another formula or finish. So, when I saw their most recent addition to the line-up - the Crystal Rocks Textured Nail Paints - I just had to pick up a couple of shades to try. Super glittery lacquers that dry down to a really textured finish - sounds pretty awesome, right? And with me going out-out last Saturday, I figured there was no better time to give one of the colours I bought a first try...

This is the shade 'Tiger Eye' - a stunning, light champagne gold. Ah, a classic - but for good reason too. Everyone loves a nail colour like this, right? This is exactly the sort of shade I'd reach for all year long if I wanted to go for something glittery, but especially with the festive/party season fast approaching - I could really see myself getting tonnes of use out of this in the final quarter of the year, providing I enjoyed the formula/finish of course!

I couldn't wait to start applying this, but as this formula is so intensely glittery, I decided I wanted to use a base coat first to hopefully aid for both better application and easier removal later on - and for this, I used my Barry M All In One Base and Top Coat (which I actually picked up at the same time as these Crystal Rocks Nail Paints exactly for this purpose as I never typically use a base coat). One coat left to set on my bare nails and I was ready to move on with the main star of the show - 'Tiger Eye'! And oh my, I was possibly even more impressed with this than I thought I would be. This formula really does live up to its claims - it's super shimmery but whilst it applies more like a 'traditional' glitter polish that's really smooth and shiny, it dries down to a much more 'matte' effect, but that's still super sparkly (if that makes sense?). And it really is very textured too - your nails feel kinda rough and 'gritty' when you feel them, as opposed to smooth and glossy! Each layered dried down pretty quickly and I found the usual two coats was more than enough to achieve full, opaque coverage too. I did personally use a top coat as a finishing touch as I wanted at least a little more shine and reflection - simply because I'm much more of a glossy nails gal than fully matte - and I definitely preferred how that looked and also how it made my nails feel a little more smooth to touch aswell. I still feel like it didn't take away too much from the overall effect of the polish though, as my nails still weren't as high shine and smooth as they are from your standard creme polishes of course, or even regular glitter polishes too - I guess I managed to get the best of both worlds, which is always a good thing...
