Quick Fire Lipstick Reviews!

I'd accumulated a few random lipsticks in my 'New In/To Try/ Drawer and was really wanting to try them all out this month - plus, I've recently added a couple others with various events and occasions in mind too, so there was those to test out too! So, let's run through them all and see what I thought, in a 'Quick Fire Review/First Impressions' type of style...

REVOLUTION POWDER MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'FASCINATION' - This range kinda caught my eye when it launched not too long ago and then, I was suddenly in the market for trying a new red lipstick and the opportunity arose to try one out! I'm planning on wearing a new red dress to a Christmas meal next month and want to rock a red lip to match - and with it being a meal and going out to drinks after, I actually don't want to go for a matte liquid lipstick (which is the format that I have a lot of my reds in). I actually want to go for a super matte bullet lipstick instead and whilst I do have my favourite MAC Ruby Woo (which is a retro matte and so, super shine-free and transfer-proof) I want to try a few more before then to see if there's any other contenders. And this one looked pretty good. It's a 'powder matte' finish and honestly, I'd say it's pretty similar to MAC Ruby Woo in terms of formula - but just at a much more affordable price! The colour isn't the same - it's still a true red, just a touch deeper - but the formula is highly comparable and I love it so far! It feels so lightweight and comfortable on the lips, yet it's so super matte and once applied onto the lips, doesn't move around at all. You need to touch up at the very centre of the lips after eating or drinking, but I fully expected that from a bullet lipstick and because it is in the format, it's so easy to reapply and it's good as new again!

NYX SUEDE MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'COPENHAGEN' - This is yet another matte bullet lipstick that I bought recently - this time with a wedding that I'm going to soon in mind (I'm planning on wearing a berry dress and think I want a matching berry lip!). Again, I want to opt for a super matte bullet lipstick as opposed to a matte liquid lip, but still want all the benefits of the former - and I think I may have found a good option in this one from NYX. Similar to the Revolution offering - this one has a slight bit more slick to it, but it's still super powdery matte in finish and yet really comfortable and lightweight in feel. It applied super pigmented and opaque in one layer (which is something that can be a little hard to find in deeper berry tone lipsticks) and when I tried this out for the first time, I found it to not move all day and only required a few minimal touch-ups in the centre of the lips throughout the day!

MUA SATIN LIPSTICK IN 'TLC' - The final traditional bullet lipstick in this review line-up comes from, MUA - and this time, we're not talking matte bullet lipsticks! As I always say, I always go for mattes when it comes to bright, bold and deep colours; whilst with nudes I don't mind using glossy or satin as well as mattes - hence why I chose out this gorgeous nude colour from their new Satin Lipstick range! If you don;t know, I piked up their Intense Colour Lip Liner in 'TLC' a while ago (due to MakeMeUpMissa raving about it) and it's quickly become one of my go-to nude lip liners. So, when I saw they were coming out with a supposedly matching lipstick - I had to try it. And so far, I love it! The formula is so creamy, glides on with ease and full pigment and the finish really is true 'satin' - not matte, but not fully glossy either - so whilst it won't stay around as long as a matte bullet or liquid lipstick, whenever I've worn it it still stays around a decent amount of time and doesn't smudge or move around on the lips either, which is awesome. The colour is gorgeous and actually does match the lip liner almost identically - a perfect light (but not too light) pinky-brown nude. Almost like my ideal 'MLBB' shade - so I feel like I'm going to be getting a lot of use out of this one from now on...

LOTTIE LONDON SLAY ALL DAY LIQUID LIPSTICK IN 'GRL PWR' - Onto the one, 'true' matte liquid lipstick of the bunch (which is surprising to be honest as we all know how much I adore them) - we have this one from Lottie London! I've heard so many good things about this range before and after seeing Missa (again I know!) talk about another shade in a video of hers a while ago I decided to pick one yup to try for myself at last. This shade is just gorgeous and another perfect tone in terms of nudes for me - not too light or deep (again), this time a warm, slightly peachy brown nude. However, I have to say I'm not a massive fan of the formula/finish so far. It applies fully opaque, dries down to a lovely fully matte finish and looks lovely on the lips at first. However, over time it slowly starts to really sink into any fine lines in my lips and make them look quite dry and dehydrated and generally not as plump and polished as I like them to look. It also started to feel quite heavy and drying on the lips too, even though when first applied it feels so light and comfortable, which is a shame. I will keep testing this out to see if I'm maybe applying too much or need a different lip balm underneath to prep my lips better, but for now it's not my favourite...

REVOLUTION CREME LIPS IN 'PIECE OF CAKE' AND 'CHAUFFEUR' - We all know I love the Revolution Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks, but what about their Creme Lips? Also from their whole 'Lip Boutique' - which is basically where there's the same shades, just in varying formats - these are more like your NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. You know, where they're like an almost 'beginner-friendly' matte liquid lip that's got a lighter, moussey formula that still dries down, but just not to a fully matte finish? Well, you know what - I'd say these are pretty comparable to the NYX offering! Because they're not as much of an intense, thick matte finish, they don't last as long (but to be honest, they still last pretty well) but they do feel more comfortable on the lips and are easier to touch-up - so, swings and roundabouts and all that. 'Piece Of Cake' is a lighter, slightly pinky nude; whilst 'Chauffeur' is a lovely mauve, cooler-toned nude and I really like them both - plus they definitely do match up to the same shades I have in the Matte Lip formula too!

NYX BUTTER GLOSS IN 'MADELEINE' - Finally, we have this lip gloss - also from NYX! You might remember I finally bought and tried out one of their infamous Butter Glosses not too long ago and spoiler alert - I loved it. It was in the shade 'Tiramisu' and I not only loved the shade (a pretty, pinky-brown nude as, like I said, I don't often wear lipgloss but when I do, it's only ever in more neutral shades) I also fell in love with the awesome formula too. These lipglosses really are as great as everyone always claimed them to be - so much so, I went back for another colour! This is more of a light brown nude - so perfect for when I want a more browney-nude lip colour - and as before, the formula is lovely. They're pigmented enough for a lipgloss (enough colour to show up, but not too opaque so as to not allow them to be layered over other lip products) and they're so super glossy on the lips, but not at all sticky feeling at all and so lightweight too! They just make your lips look so juicy and shiny and lovely - certainly worth the hype...
