Holly Jolly Highlighters #DitsyDecember

It wouldn't be #DitsyDecember without me discussing some awesome makeup picks for the festive season - right? And this year, I thought I'd do a little three-part 'series' type of thing where I take each section of makeup - Face, Eyes and then Lips - and hone in on what I feel to be the main product for each that we seem to particularly focus on around this time of year. So, today we're starting with the Face and of course, with it being the season of all things sparkly - what else could I be concentrating on than good ol' Highlighters...

REVOLUTION PRO SKIN FINISH POWDER IN 'OPALESCENT' - Starting off with perhaps less of a 'traditional' highlighter, but more so an 'all over glow' type thing, if you get what I mean. You know the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders or MAC Skin Finishes, where they're almost like a cross between a pressed powder and a highlighter that you can either use as a more 'natural' highlighter or dust all over the entire face to give a gorgeous, general sheen? These powders from Revolution Pro are basically the same kind of thing - just more affordable! MakeMeUpMissa got me onto this shade in particular (as we're of a similar skin-tone) and oh my goodness, it's been a go-to of mine ever since. If I ever feel like my skin in general is looking a little 'flat' or too matte, I take a large fluffy brush and apply this lightly over my whole face and it instantly makes me look more glowy, healthy and awakened - all without any large, noticeable specks of glitter or shimmer at all. I don't know how it does it, but it does it so, so well...

THE BALM MARY LOU MANIZER LUMINIZER - Ah, the classic. Remember a few years back when everyone and their Nan was raving on about this highlighter? Well, I was definitely one of those people and even though I don't use it as much as I used to, I still come back to it every now and again and love it just as much as I always have. A stunning light champagne that's super intense and blinding, yet not at all chunky or too glittery on the skin - and with such a creamy, blendable formula too! You can probably tell why I've hit pan over the years...

OFRA HIGHLIGHTER IN 'GLAZED DONUT' - A super gorgeous highlighter that came into my collection this past year (for my Birthday back in May actually!) and has been a firm favourite ever since is this one from OFRA. I'd wanted to try one of their highlighters for so long and I have definitely not been disappointed by this one. This is the perfect pale, white highlighter that's icy - but without being too cool-toned. It gives such a blinding glow, but without leaving a grey-ish cast (which usually comes from those white-base highlighters) and I just love the formula too. You really do just need the smallest amount to get such an intense finish, yet is applies onto the skin so smoothly and seamlessly and with no chunky glitter to be seen. Honestly, for the higher price-point I was expecting pretty good things and I'd certainly say it was worth it...

MAYBELLINE MASTER CHROME METALLIC HIGHLIGHTER IN 'DIAMOND GLOW' - I love the Master Chromes from Maybelline. I have a few in my collection now and though I love them all, I think if I had to pick one for the festive season it'd be this one right here. The lightest, brightest of them all - this is another kind of icy, white highlighter. Again, it doesn't come off too cool-toned on my skin so blends seamlessly and the formula is just awesome - as it always is with this range in general! So intense and pigmented and also so smooth and just sheen-ey in texture. I always find this one especially to make a gorgeous brow bone and inner-corner highlight too...

OBSESSION 'MEGA LIGHTNING' HIGHLIGHTER - I couldn't not mention this one, right? Ever since trying this back at the start of the year, it's quickly become one of my favourite, most-used and reached for highlighters in my stash. It comes in at just £3 (yep, just three pounds!) and yet performs so much more like a highlighter which could double, triple or even quadruple the price. It's that good. Such an intense, pigmented formula that you need the smallest amount of in order to get a blinding, super-glowy finish and this colour is just gorgeous and ideal for both my preference and paler skin-tone. It's mainly icy white, but with richer gold marbled throughout so the mixture of the two creates such a stunning light golden glow. Just perfect for the festive season...

REVOLUTION RELOADED HIGHLIGHTER IN 'JUST MY TYPE' - Yet another Revolution highlighter (they're definitely one of my go-to brands for glows it seems!) - this time from the main 'Revolution' brand. These launched as updated single highlighters for their classic collection and this one is just gorgeous. Another light champagne - this time, more on the warmer, golden side of things. It's got a slightly more 'dry' and less creamy formula, yet once taken on a brush it still applies onto the skin pretty smoothly and deposits a rather intense glow in no time at all. It's slightly more glittery than some of the other highlighters in this line-up, but the glitter is still pretty finely-milled and not chunky on the skin - so I don't mind...

DOLL BEAUTY DOLL LIGHT HIGHLIGHTER IN 'LIKE A DIAMOND' - I actually picked this highlighter up around this time, last year when Beauty Bay had their big Black Friday sales and ever since, I've loved it. Another super pigmented and intense formula that deposits such a beaming glow without any chunky shimmer or glitter and the colour of this is just perfect for me too. A more 'true' champagne tone - that sits more on the cooler side rather than the warmer, golden side - it just works so well for my paler skin-tone. I'm pretty sure they have a slightly deeper, richer highlighter for darker complexions too!

WET 'N' WILD MEGA GLOW HIGHLIGHTER IN 'BLOOM TIME' - Wet 'n' Wild is another brand that do awesome highlighters in the drugstore/affordable arena, so I couldn't not throw one in here. And whilst I love 'Blossom Glow', with the festive season in mind - I figured this slightly warmer, richer 'Bloom Time' would be a good shout. As I said, this one is just a drop deeper - yet still works just fine for my paler skin-tone as it has such a light reflect to it - and it's like the perfect rose gold. A great twist if you don't want to go down the 'traditional' true golden route for your glow this Christmas...

L'OREAL CRUSHED FOIL METALLIC HIGHLIGHTER IN 'ROSE QUARTZ' - This offering from L'Oreal got a lot of attention back when it first launched and I instantly fell in love when I got round to trying it myself. And though it's not one I each for as often now, it's still a gorgeous glow I come back to every now and again - normally around this time of year, hence its inclusion in this post - and enjoy using every time. It's kind of similar to the Wet 'n' Wild one I mentioned above, though perhaps just leaning slightly more on the warm, golden side than the rosey, pinky side. It's basically more of a rose-toned gold than a strong mix of the two, so maybe if you want a rose gold that's a little less rosey - this may be your guy...

REVOLUTION X SOPH HIGHLIGHTER PALETTE - Finally, I just had to give this palette a shout-out. If there's one highlighter palette I'd recommend - not only for Christmas, but all year round - it's this one from Revolution, in collaboration with the lovely SophDoesNails. It's only £8 and you get eight shades (£1 per shade is pretty good value to me) and the shades inside are just stunning. There's a great selection for all skin-tones - from the fairest of fair to the deepest of deep and everything in-between and going by all the shades I've used myself (which is still at least half of the palette to be honest) - the formula is awesome. So intense, so blinding, so smooth and non-chunky - what more could you ask for this Christmas?
