Polish Pick: Red and Gold Sparkle #DitsyDecember

It was my Work's Christmas Party last Saturday and of course, I painted my nails for the occasion! And with it being a festive party - and me also conveniently wearing a red dress too - I just had to do a suitably Christmassey, red nail look. But, of course this wasn't just simple rouge - I had to go for all things glittery...

To start with, I layered on a couple of coats of a new favourite of mine (and that I knew as soon as I bought it that it'd be a staple for the upcoming festive season) and that is the Barry M Crystal Rock Textured Nail Paint in 'Red Jasper'. Now, as you've probably heard from me already - these polishes really are like liquid sparkle. Simply apply as normal and watch as it dries down to a matte, pure glitter finish. You can apply a top coat over the top to seal things into place and add a slightly more shiny, smoother effect (like I personally like to) but aside from that, they're pretty much one-and-done type lacquers if you're after going for all things glittery on the nails. And this colour is just spot-on Christmas! The perfect, true red with slight golden flecks running through it - what else could you ask for, right? Two coats was more than enough to achieve full opacity and though you could easily leave things there (as I said, this format of nail polish makes for a great all-in-one type thing) but as it was a special occasion, I wanted to go that step further. So, I decided to add on a coat of another lacquer from Barry M - this time, their Glitter Nail Paint in 'Majestic Sparkle'! A clear base with a mix of both larger golden glitter flecks and smaller silver flecks running throughout - the perfect gold glitter nail polish topper, basically - and it worked a treat layered over the top of 'Red Jasper' too! One layer was just the right level of coverage to add enough glittery goodness, but still allow the sparkly matte red base to shine through nicely. Red and Gold - classically Christmas, but it's definitely a staple for a good reason...
