It seems only a month or so ago that I did this post here all about the last Tanya Burr Cosmetics Collection - titled 'Neutral Ambiance' - but somehow, it's already time again to run through some more additions to the brand. I'm not actually going completely mad though as it really was only in the past couple of months that the last range was released and while usually Tanya tends to leave a considerable gap between all of her product launches, this time round we're being spoiled and have some new things to buy and play around with already. 'Chasing The Sun' - a brilliant name considering the time of which this mini collection is launching - is comprised of a trio of products (all in various shades) and as always, I had to pick up one of each, in the perfect hues for me, to show 'n' tell for you lovely lot - and to have a play with myself too, obviously. Let's dive in, yeah?
First up, we have what is probably the most exciting addition to the collection as a while - highlighters. In the past, Tanya has released powder highlighters as part of palettes and also some separate cream stick highlighters last Summer which I loved but never highlighters in the classic powder format that came as individual, standalone products - until now. Introducing, the Illuminating Powders (£7.49 each). These are available in three different colours - 'Champagne Sorbet' (a - you guessed it - pure champagne), 'Warm Bronze' (a deeper, bronzey tone) and 'Peonies Please' (a pretty, bright fuchsia pink) and of them all, I picked up the one which looked the most well-suited to my skintone and also makeup preferences - 'Champagne Sorbet'. The other two shades, while super duper pretty, looked more to be the kind of thing I'd use as eyeshadow (I'm not so much into shimmery bronzers/blushers - and I don't tend to wear blush much at all anyway) whilst I was on the lookout for something which I could use as a typical highlighter and to me, that shade fit the bill.
Then, the second product of the 'Chasing The Sun' Collection is yet another rather exciting addition - cream contour sticks. I know, I know. As I said, in the past Tanya has added a variety of cream highlighters and illuminators to her brand line-up, but as of yet has never ventured into the world of contouring at all, yet alone cream textures. However, that is all about to change with the release of the Cream Contour Sticks (£6.99 each). These come in two shades - 'Light/Medium' and 'Medium/Dark' and seeing as the majority of the time, I am super-duper pale, I picked up the former - 'Light/Medium'. I must say that the one main 'criticism' (I guess) that I would give straight off is that, while there is a slight differentiation from the two shades that Tanya has released, personally I feel like she could have gone a little darker with the shades on offer and added perhaps even just one extra to the line-up that was that bit deeper and so suited those types of skintones. Hopefully that's something for next time and right now, if you are of the same kind of skintone as me, or more of a medium colour, you should be perfectly fine with one of the two colours. As I said, I opted for the lighter of the two and I must say, it is actually a pretty ideal colour match. It's not too dark on my fair complexion, nor is it too light so as to not show up at all and it's perfect tone for me too. While I like my contours to have a slight ashy undertone, I still like them to have a tiniest touch of warmth in there somewhere so as to not deaden the face and luckily, this stuff's got a lovely, bronze, olivey-ness to it that really flatters the complexion nicely. The size of the bullet actually makes for a pretty precise application around the perimeter of the face and when used carefully, can even be used to sculpt out around more 'detailed' areas like the nose too. And the formula - which I typically find to be the 'make or break' aspect with cream products, personally - is really rather lovely too. It applies uber-pigmented onto the skin, yet as soon as you take a brush/sponge to it (or even your fingers if you were in a real rush) it blends out almost instantly into a finish that is still visible, but yet totally seamless and 'meshed' into the skin. The plus-point I usually find with using creams is that, used in the right way, they can look so 'natural' and just 'skin-like' and this definitely fits the bill. All in all, I think I may be heading back onto the cream contour bandwagon once again for the foreseeable...
Finally, the third and final product from the new 'Chasing The Sun' Range - Tinted Lipbalms. These retail at £4.99 each and come in three different 'flavours' - 'Sweet Lime Pie' (a green, limey lipbalm that actually comes out completely clear on the lips), 'Blackberry Coulis' (a deeper-coloured, blackberry-scented lipbalm) and 'Strawberry Milkshake' (a pretty, candy pink that's scented with - you guessed it - sweet strawberries). Being a fan of brighter pinks, I obviously opted for the latter - 'Strawberry Milkshake' - and I must say that having opened this up for the first time, I'm not sure how or why, but I was instantly hit with a feeling of nostalgia. I don't know exactly what, but it smells identical to something I remember having as a child. Strange how these things can do that for you, right? Anyway, besides he trip down memory lane, these lipbalms are pretty lovely. Obviously, I love the colour and scent as I love a good fruity fragrance and anything rosey-toned always gets the thumbs up from me but other than those two crucial elements, the formula and texture is a winner too. It goes on super-easily and has a glossy (but not too shiny, nor sticky) finish on the lips that's very, very comfortable to wear. It feels very hydrating on the lips - exactly what you'd expect from a lip balm - and it departs a slight, pretty pinky tint that I find to really brighten the complexion and I can imagine to be perfect for minimal/no makeup days when you don't want anything major in the lip department but still want something that will keep your lips nice and nourished at the same time. I was thinking aswell that maybe, just maybe, this may work well as a cream blush if that's your kinda thing? I do love a good multi-tasker!
So, overall, what's my final thoughts? I think it's pretty clear that once again, I love Tanya's new range. Will there ever be something she comes out with that I'm disappointed with? For now, definitely not so as I am loving these three new additions. As I always say, for such an accessible, affordable brand; the items are such amazing quality and these, from the shades I picked up myself, are certainly no exception. Head to Superdrug, or go on their online site, or even head over to Feel Unique and pick yourself some up to try out as you really will no regret it, fo' sho'...
