Chia Seeds - What They Are and Why They're So Awesome #AllMonthAugust

I've mentioned the whole shebang about chia seeds before on the blog (here, specifically) but I've never in fact done a whole post solely focused on the subject so that's exactly what I'm sitting down to write for you lovely lot today. Since becoming far more interested in healthy eating and exercising over the past nearly-two years, with that came many a good discovery in which has helped make this transition far smoother. One of these was chia seeds, and oh my am I glad to have these in my life now...

I first heard about chia seeds a while back in either someone's blog post or video - I cannot for the life of my remember who or which format - but all in all, somehow a lovely person online was responsible. From there I remember this almost snowballing to the point where I couldn't watch or read one 'Healthy Eating Tips' video or post without these getting a mention. I guess chia seeds were having their 'moment', eh? It was then that I started to properly listen-up.

I began to do some of my own research into just how these little things worked. In short, they are all kinds of incredible. Just some of the many jobs they perform include them being a powerful antioxidant, aid in weight loss, and a way of really bulking meals or drinks out and filling you up for longer. They're high in fibre, protein and Omega 3 and can help combat illnesses such as heart disease and Type 2 diabetes. They're widely billed as a super food actually worthy of the hype surrounding it and for me, the best part is that they're super-easy to incorporate into your diet.

When I finally caved and bought a packet I quickly Google-d some ways in which they can be used and hundreds upon hundreds came flashing up. Personally, at the time I was struggling breakfast-wise and whilst I'd finally managed to settle on something I really liked (link for more on that here), I still felt like something was missing. These filled that void perfectly. Many suggested sprinkling a few on top of your breakfast for that extra hit of nutrition and as a way of keeping your full-up from your feasting for a longer period of time so I did exactly that and haven't looked back since. Being bland and not particularly colourful, once mixed into my breakfast offerings they practically go unnoticed.

So, I guess I'm now officially on that hype bandwagon. Question is - have I enabled anyone else to join me?
