Wedding Makeup Tips #AllMonthAugust

With today in fact marking my big Sister's first wedding anniversary (Already! How time does fly), I thought what better time than to construct a comprehensive kit of my own tips for all things wedding makeup-related. Having actually done the deed in hand for the Bride, myself and the other Bridesmaid on this day one year ago, I feel I have some knowledge to impart on those wishing to do down the same round of DIY-ing it...

STICK TO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU - Weddings are ideal situations for keeping things as they usually are. Ain't nobody got time for experimenting on a day like today. Whether you're the Bride herself, or any of the other members of the Bridal party - I feel it's best to stick with your typical, everyday makeup. Yes, you may elaborate on it a little and perhaps spend a tad more time on the finished result (and maybe even use different products as long as you test them prior to the day itself - see below point) - but in essence you want to keep the finished look fairly identical. Not only does this minimise the chances of disaster striking on the Big Day, but also keeps everyone looking like 'themselves' on the photos.

RESEARCH, PLANNING AND ORGANISATION - Now, I feel like this is the big'un. You need to do your research and gather information together. If people are requesting makeup similar to what they usually wear - ask for photos of which you can replicate - or if we're going for something completely different (and perhaps based on someone else's makeup offerings), again photos are always handy to have. Get an idea of the makeup to be done for each person a good time ahead of the wedding itself, allowing for trials to be done, things to be changed about if they need to and the final chosen products to be gathered together and/or bought ready to go. Organisation in itself is also majorly key. Everything needs to be planned out to each and every minor detail to ensure things run as smoothly as possible on the Big Day. Each makeup process for each person needs to be timed and allocated a certain 'slot' for, with possible 'over-run' time allowed for too.

KEEP THINGS TIMELESS - Talking of time, I always think for a wedding - as well as keeping everything fairly identical to what you're used to wearing on an everyday basis - it's also a good idea to keep things overly classic. Remember, whilst it may be currently 2015, when you're looking back on photos in ten years time in 2025 - makeup trends are likely to be entirely different to what they are now - and your personal taste is bound to be too. Try and stick to a makeup look that's always in favour in the beauty world, to keep things looking as fresh as possible.

CONSIDER THE WEDDING ITSELF - Another important thing to factor into the whole 'Wedding Makeup' process is of course the wedding itself. If you're planning on getting married in a beach setting on a hot Summer's day, where you're likely to get quite windswept but also possibly a little sweaty (TMI?) - it's probably not the best idea to wear a thick layer of slap, even if it is your wedding day. Consider the place in which your wedding will be held, and the events likely to occur throughout the day. Also remember that it's unlikely you'll have time/be bothered for touch-ups throughout the day, so perhaps a bright red lip is not the best route to go down. All in all, for me, the main priority I held when doing my Sister's makeup (and also mine and that of the other Bridesmaid) was to make sure things were locked down and kept in place for as long as possible.

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON - Probably the one I had to listen up to the most on the Big Day itself was to keep calm. I know it's more difficult in practice, but it really does help. Hopefully by adhering to the above points, this kinda thing should come more naturally - leaving you to get hitched without a hitch...
