With Christmas just round the corner (only two weeks to go - how crazy is that?!), personally I'm in full glitter mode. Don't get me wrong - I'm never gonna be the world's biggest fan of the stuff - but I'm still finding myself compelled to go a bit wild and inject a little here and there whenever and wherever I can. I've spoke a few times about how I like to do this via makeup and also did a post here in last year's #DitsyDecember all about some of my favourite festive nail pairings. While I'm hoping to do something along similar lines of the latter again sometime before The Big Day, for today's post I thought I'd simply introduce you to just one match that I've been loving recently and that's currently residing on my beds...
Who doesn't love a bit of gold during the festive season? A classic Christmassy hue that gives a bod to the season, but still manages to look quite sophisticated at the same time. For this time of year - as I'm sure I've said before - I like to stick to traditional 'yellow' gold, swapping those kinds of tones in for my typical bronzes or rusty shades. So when I came across this new H&M 'Gold Rush' Nail Polish, I knew it had to become part of my collection, especially for the upcoming festive season. I've mentioned it before in this post last month, so I'll try not to over-ramble, but I figured it'd be handy for you lovely lot to see it in action and see just how beautiful a shade it is. 'Gold Rush' is just that - a true, bright yellowy gold that's interesting and unique in my collection (surprisingly). The other golds I currently own are more sheer glitter topcoats that host large and smaller chunks of sparkle in a clear polish base so give a nice finishing touch, but are never gonna be able to hold their own alone. However, this H&M one is completely different and while contains near-identical tones, the glitter is more finely-milled and on close inspection looks to be suspended in a metallic gold lacquer - so two coats of this and you've pretty much reached full opacity. Winner! After applying those two layers, while I was in love with the colour and instantly felt very festive indeed - I felt because it was so yellow and vivid that the whole look kind of needed a focus point. As I'm sure everyone knows, yellow is a notoriously difficult shade to wear on the nails as at a distance, it can simply translate as your nails being unhealthy, damaged or stained. Obviously, that wasn't the effect I was particularly going for so after some deliberation, I plumped for this Collection Bedazzled Nail Polish in 'Tea At The Glitz'. This also houses similar gold-y tones so I knew it would blend nicely over the top of 'Gold Rush', but it also contains some smaller black flecks too so once layered over the top of the H&M offering, creates that important contrast and focal point that I knew the look was lacking. I am in love...
