Remember these kinds of posts? I think I've done one for Friday, Saturday and Sunday so far; but considering we're now in the full swing of the festive season, today I'm bringing to the table some things I personally think are important to make time for at Christmas. Let's do this...
- Family time - I think this has to be probably the most obvious one out of them all, but I guess I have to give it a mention anyway! Personally, spending quality time with my loved ones has to be up there with one of my favourite parts of Christmas. Whether they're people you spend a lot of time with anyway, or simply more on special occasions - it always gives me a lovely warm fuzzy feeling and is probably the aspect of the season I look forward to the most.
- Let it go - Another things I feel is essential to this time of year is trying to stay stress-free. I emphasis 'trying' as I know how hard in reality this one can actually be - whether you're worrying about presents, arrangements, food or so on - it seems there's always something to panic over at Christmas. However, if you can just have a go at relaxing and if and whenever a usually-stressful situation arises (such as the roast potatoes not being done on time) try and take a little step back out of it and just think 'Is this really something worth getting completely het up over?' Like I said - I know it's easier said than done - but once you try it, you'll notice how much of a difference it makes to the smooth running of your festive season.
- Disconnect - I've mentioned this one a few times before in these kinds of posts, but I think especially when it comes it Christmas it's always nice to just disconnect from the outside world a little. Focus on what's going on in your world right at that moment - rather than what's trending on Twitter. As with the above point - I know myself how hard this can be as I can be a little guilty of going to pick up my phone a few times during Christmas too - but I do think I spend far less time on it that I normally would on any other days of the year and it's nice to just detach yourself from the Internet every once in a while.
- Embrace it - For me, Christmas symbolises a lot of changes to my normal routine and I am more than OK with all of them. Getting up super-early (not for work for once), having a more extravagant breakfast with Christmas music playing in the background and putting on a fancy dress in the daytime when you're not really going anywhere fancy. These seems like small, insignificant aspects when written like that but really - they are some of my favourite parts of the whole day/days. And I guess what I'm trying to say is, whatever traditions or fun things you do differently during the festive season 'Just because it's Christmas' - embrace them. Christmas only comes once a year and all that...
- Food - Need I say anymore?
Christmas? I'm ready for ya.
