I did a little 'First Impressions' post here a while back when I wanted to give you lovely lot my first-time feedback on some 'New In At The Drugstore' items and felt the format worked really well, so I thought I'd dig it back out again for delivering my thoughts on the bits I picked up from the NYX stand last week. Let's delve right in, shall we?
Kicking things off with the Dark Circle Concealer in 'Fair'. I really rather like this stuff. It's a salmon-toned concealer as opposed to the more yellow-y ones I've tried before as a means of correcting the purple/blue tones under my eyes and so far, I've found this to work much better than any others I've tried before. I apply a little in the very inner corners of my under-eyes where things are particularly dark and can instantly see how it's pared everything back and left a more neutralised base for my standard concealer to layer on top of. It's got a very lovely moisturising texture which feels very comfortable to apply and wear and I find it lasts all day without any creasing at all. So far, so good. For the complexion, I gave the Wonder Stick Highlight and Contour Stick in 'Light' a go. Here, you get a two-in-one with a cream contour on one end and a cream highlight on the other - both in stick form. Both are equally well pigmented and very easy to apply and blend out. The contour shade is very flattering on my paler skintone - it's not too ashy, nor too warm - so sculpts the face but also adds a nice touch of warmth too, all in a very natural way. Personally, the highlight hue isn't my favourite aspect of this product as while it has a lovely texture, it's actually completely shimmer-free and so is more for those of us who highlight for dimension as opposed to glow. I sit more on the latter side of things, so this ain't really up my street I'm afraid. The next product on my list of to-try's is the Wonder Pencil in 'Light'. This is a supposed 'multi-use' product for a variety of areas on the face - whether it for pinpoint concealing, to conceal the inner waterline of the eyes or as a reverse lip liner. I tried this out for all three of those purposes as I wanted to see how 'multi functional' this thing really was and all in all, I like it. First things first, it's housed in your traditional wooden packaging, meaning it's super-sturdy and can be sharpened (a plus point in my opinion when it comes to products like this). The formula is just right - not too dry and hard, but not too creamy either. It kinda just falls slap bang in the middle so aids application and wear-time without compromising on longevity. For blemishes, it did ok but perhaps wasn't my favourite method of concealing as personally my blemishes are slightly larger; eyes-wise, it felt fine to apply in my inner waterline (poet and I didn't know it) and lasted well and in terms of the lips, I really liked the idea of using this to kind of 'tidy up' my pout and add shape and definition without necessarily using a coloured lip liner.
Moving onto eyes, I picked up the Jumbo Eye Pencils in 'Yoghurt' and 'Sparkle Nude' to try out also. Unfortunately, these are a bit of a 'meh' product for me so far. As they're both fairly light shades, I decided to utilise them for an all-over-the-lid eyeshadow jobby as opposed to an actual eyeliner and I'm afraid they've not massively impressed me so far. The shades don't come out as intensely pigmented as I'd expect them to (and in comparison to similar products from other brands) and I find them to not last as well on my lids. They fade down over time and I can detect the slightest hint of creasing too. In their defence, they are creamy and easy to apply and blend out - but so far, I'm not feeling them. I will preserve though and carry on trying them out to see if I can find a way to make them work, as in the stick they are stunning shades. I'll keep you updated...
Finally - lips - and over the past week I've been giving the Slide On Lip Pencil in 'Pink Cantaloupe' a go. Going on first impressions, I've got major love for this. Just as the name would imply, the formula of these pencils is super-creamy and they really do almost glide onto your lips - however, they still fulfil the standard brief of what you'd want a lip liner to do - keeping my lippie in place all day long. This bright, pinky-coral shade in particular I'm really happy I picked up, as I have nothing else like it in my collection and it's ideal for the warmer months. I can actually envisage this looking awesome worn alone all-over the lips for a super long-lasting lip option. Maybe that's what I'll be giving a go next, eh?
