It's mad to think that a while back, I hadn't even heard of nude eye pencils - let alone used one. I thought eye pencils were all for adding depth and definition to the upper and lower lashline, so what were skin-toned kohls all about? However, over time I've come to realise just how handy they can be and the multitude of tasks they can be employed for, so today I thought I'd share a selection of them for you lovely lot...
TO COLOUR-CORRECT THE WATERLINE - Now this is probably the one which a nude pencil is most well-known for, but it sure does work a treat - let me tell you. Simply wiggle it in your lower waterline where things may be looking a little red and it instantly makes your yes look wider, fresher and more awake. And who doesn't want that, eh?
TO BRIGHTEN UP THE INNER CORNER - Another way you can use a nude pencil for your peepers is to use it in your inner corner as a highlighter. The shimmer-free formula looks much more natural and less in-yer-face and the small point makes getting right on in there and placing the product just where you want it rather quick and easy indeed.
TO CLEAN-UP YOUR EYESHADOW/EYELINER - Finally for the eyes and a trick I love to use if things are looking a tad misshapen or messy. For eyeshadow, to create a sharp, winged-out effect, simply run the pencil on the outer edge to clean it up and blend out with a small brush to soften slightly. This is also a great trick for if your feline flicks just aren't doing it for you - simply draw underneath to sharpen them up or use it as an eraser and draw over the top to reshape.
TO CLEAN-UP AND SCULPT THE BROWS - Eyebrows are another area which can be easily reshaped and cleaned up with a nude pencil. You can hide any stray hairs, fix any mistakes and highlight without the need for an actual glow-giver. Once again, the fine tip makes it super easy to get the product exactly where you want it, but the creamy texture means you've got the option to soften and blend it out too.
TO PINPOINT CONCEAL SMALLER AREAS - Nude pencils come in a whole variety of flesh-toned colours, so I guess it makes sense for it to be able to be used around the face as a concealer too. With its small tip, I particularly like it as a 'pinpoint' concealer for tiny blemishes and also as a way of adding extra coverage on top of small areas which your regular concealer may not have completely covered up. Simply ensure the pencil matches up to your skintone and you're good to go!
TO SCULPT THE FACE - In the same way in which I noted a nude pencil can be used to define around the eyebrows - it's also pretty darn useful for cleaning up where you've sculpted around the face. If your contour is looking a little messy, softly draw underneath it with a nude pencil and blend it out to erase the excess product and instantly lift your cheekbones again. This tip also works well application of other cheek products (such as blush and bronzer) too.
TO DEFINE YOUR LIP LINE - Moving onto lips, we've all heard of lip liners which come in a whole host of different shades to match up to whatever lip colour you're going for - but a nude pencil is just as handy for defining your lip line too. Trace around the outer edge of your lips to make things look much more crisp and structured and reshape areas if you need/want to. It also works well after applying lipstick if you've messed up your application and throughout the day if things go a bit smudgy.
TO MAKE YOUR LIPS LOOK FULLER - Another lip-related nude pencil trick is to use it to highlight your cupid's bow. I'm sure most of you have already heard/already do this, but try it with a nude pencil for a change. Once again, the glitter-less formula means it'll look much more natural and as the packaging set-up is reminiscent of a normal lip-liner, you can apply accurately to get a crisper shape.
TO ERASE MISTAKES AND MISHAPS - A more general trick for employing a nude pencil in your makeup routine is I guess something I've been kinda getting at throughout this whole post. Treat it like an eraser if you make a mistake and simply either apply it straight over the top to cover it up, or buff it away and use the pencil to patch things up again.
TO TOUCH-UP THROUGHOUT THE DAY - Talking of patching things up, one of the best features of nude pencil in my opinion is the travel-friendly nature of it. Sure, you can easily carry a concealer around in your bag, but a pencil is even more small and compact and also only requires some 'colouring in'-type application and a quick blend in with your finger if needed on-the-go. Perfect.
