The Autumn Transition

Photo Credit - We Heart It

I cannot quite believe that it's already time for my Autumn Transition update post of 2016. It seems only a matter of weeks ago that I dropped my Summer Edition (which you can find here), but as we're nearing the end of September already - it's time for me to get talking all things Autumnal. Fancy some product recommendations and just general tips 'n' tricks on how to get your berry thang on - you've come to the right place...

For base, with my skin veering on the drier side of things, I personally like to keep things still rather glowy (at least for now),  but I do find as the weather begins to take a turn for the cooler, I gradually start to ease more products back into my routine again. In the Summer I try to keep what occupies my face as minimal as possible (sweating off a full face of makeup is not the one), but in Autumn I like to experiment with the stuff again and just generally slap as much of it on my face as is humanely possible once more. The products I'm reaching for are generally the same as before, but when it comes to the eyes and lips - that's where things are changing, people.

I really love to experiment on the ol' peepers as soon as Autumn hits and generally - the rouge-toned shadows are where it's at. The Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hr Cream Gel Eyeshadow in 'Metallic Pomegrante' is a great option as while it looks rather scary in the pan, once applied to the lids it's actually very wearable. A berry, burgundy shade with gorgeous gold shimmer running through it - it can be easily slathered all-over the lids and both worn alone or used as a base for other warm, reddy hues to go over the top of. On the complete polar opposite end of the spectrum - I also really enjoy cracking out the cooler tones on the eyes too once Autumn hits. I think there's something very understated about them and they make for the perfect pairing when you want to go bold and berry on the lips and perhaps going burgundy on the eyes too isn't the look you're after. For this, I really enjoy using the Bourjois Colourband 2-in-1 Eyeshadow and Liner in 'Mauve Baroque'. The purple looks awesome for this season, while the cool tone makes for an easily-wearable eye. As the name suggests this type of crayon format also means you have the versatility of either scribbling it all over your lid, or simply smudging it into the lashline - depending on the effect you're after. Done.

Lips-wise - once again it's time for the deeper, darker tones to begin to make an appearance on the reg' once more. It may well be what many others are doing too, but I just can't seem to escape my longing for bring back the berry in all aspects of my makeup routine, but seeing as we're not in full-on Winter just yet - I've got a few options for how I'm attempting to ease myself in. A discovery made back in the Summer was the Tanya Burr Matte Lip in 'Martha Moo' and I actually think now that we're coming into Autumn, I'm about to get even more wear out of this bad boy. It's a gorgeous mauve-y, berry-toned nude shade and I love, love, LOVE it. The formula's wicked, it's not too drying on the ol' lips and it lasts pretty darn well too. Another shade which I feel might become my new jam as Autumn gets in full swing is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in 'Cannes'. This is very similar to the Tanya Burr one, but slightly lighter and a little more pink-toned. Finally - an oldie but a goodie - the Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencil in 'Keep It Classy'. You may remember me going on about this one back a year or so ago when I first tried it and fell in love. Again, a berry-tone lippie - but this time, more of a proper berry colour. It's also got more of a velvet matte finish, so isn't full-on glossy, but isn't properly matte, matte either. It's kinda in-between, so feels and looks very forgiving on the lips, but lasts pretty well too.

Last but certainly by no means least - Nails. If you haven't gathered by now, I am all about the berry tones for Autumn, so I guess it's not surprise that that reflects in my final segment of this post too, eh? First up is the lacquer which only took pride of place on my nails a week ago - Maybelline's Forever Strong Super Stay Nail Polish in 'Divine Wine'. This true purple-y, burgundy shade is ideal as it'd not too deep and vampy and the formula is super rich and glossy and gives a real gel-like effect on the nails. Taking things down a notch is the Maybelline Color Show Nail Polish in 'Crimson Flush' which is again, a mauve-tinged lacquer, but slightly less deep and more pinky so great for beginners. On the other side of the spectrum - Tanya Burr's Matte Nail Polish in 'Soft Pyjamas'. I really like this one too. Following on from the cooler tones  on the eyes which I also really enjoy rocking this time of year, this liac-y grey is just perfect and I love how you can either keep it matte or add a glossy top coat to reinstate it to a more traditional finish. It's completely up to you...
