Over the past week or so, I've done a couple of posts round these parts under the 'YouTube Made Me Buy It' TAG. It's been doing the rounds in the online community and wanting to get in on the hype, I've done two posts so far - one for all things 'Face' and one for everything 'Eyes'. So, of course, it was about time I did my third and final update featuring all of my Lip Products that the wonderful world of YouTube encouraged me to purchase and add to my ever-growing collection. Let's do this...
BOURJOIS COLOUR BOOST LIP CRAYON ON 'PEACH ON THE BEACH' - I remember Zoe (a.k.a. Zoella) talking about this years ago in one of her drugstore hauls and falling in love with it pretty much instantly. I think after that a few other people featured it too and before long, a purchase was made and still now - I am very happy I did so. The bright, neon peach colour just looks so stunning in the warmer months paired with simplistic eyes and a bit of a tan (albeit of the faux variety) and the crayon format makes it super easy to just scribble onto your lips and go. A classic which I feel I will go back to Summer after Summer...
MAYBELLINE COLOR DRAMA VELVET LIP PENCILS - Another pencil formatted product - this time with a more shine-free finish. These received huge hype when they were released a good couple of years ago now and so, of course, eventually I caved and bought some to try out myself. The three colours I own I really love (a deep plum purple, bright orange-toned red and a deep burgundy) and it leads me to think they were a launch later on in the year, as they all certainly call out as the type of makeup I lean towards in the cooler months. Once again, these are super quick and easy to apply to the lips and I especially like how precise they are for the darker colours - doubling up as a lip liner and lipstick in one. With a matte formula that's not too matte, matte and a fairly long-lasting - yet comfortable - finish, these are still a winner in my eyes.
FLEUR DE FORCE LIP GLOSS IN 'WRITTEN IN THE STARS' - Moving onto glosses and following in the theme of the previous two posts of this kind, I feel like I kinda have to give a shout-out to these items here as without YouTube itself, these products would cease to exist in the beauty world overall - let alone my personal beauty stash. When Fleur first released her first makeup range, I was initially more drawn to the eyeshadow palettes than the lipglosses as usually, I am not really a gloss kinda gal. However, I gave one a go anyway just to see what the fuss was about and oh my, am I glad I did. This formula has to be one of my favourites in terms of glosses that I've tried. They're very well pigmented (a nice change from the norm) and have a thicker texture that's more akin to a lip lacquer than a traditional gloss - but they're not at all sticky or tacky. They wear nicely throughout the day and smell like a mixture of vanilla and chocolate - what more could you want really?
TANYA BURR COSMETICS LIP PRODUCTS - The lip products from Tanya Burr Cosmetics have always been a focus of the whole brand in general - remember when it started up as simply under the name 'Tanya Burr Lips and Nails'? Back then, glosses were the main game, but nowadays there's matte liquid lipsticks and now, lipsticks! Once again, these were all purchases mainly influenced by the fact that I watch Tanya herself and also seem to watch a lot of people who love her products and you know what? I really love them too. I spoke in the 'Eyes' version of this post last week that of them all, the palettes are probably my favourite, favourite - but that doesn't mean I don't have a soft spot for the lip products too. The glosses again, have a really nice texture and the 'Martha Moo' Matte Lip has to be one of my favourite lip products I've discovered all of this year. I. am. obsessed. Her recent addition of proper lipsticks is also a welcome one - with a traditional, creamy lipstick formula and a gorgeous line-up of shades.
MAYBELLINE COLOUR SENSATIONAL SHINE GLOSS IN 'CASHMERE ROSE' - Yet another gloss which YouTube definitely purchased me into purchasing is this one from Maybelline - I know, more from Maybelline. I remember years back Anna (then from 'ViviannaDoesMakeup', now from 'The Anna Edit') talking about this gloss constantly and in the end, I picked it up to give a go myself and while it may not be one I reach for regularly, whenever I do I'm reminded of how I do rather like it. I paired it with a nude lipstick on my sister's wedding day and it worked really well and while I don't think they make these glosses anymore, I'm a little sad as going from this shade alone, they're a rather good drugstore offering.
BOURJOIS ROUGE EDITION VELVETS - Again, a lip product I bought into primarily due to the lovely Anna raving about them a good couple of years ago. Back in the day, they were probably the first liquid lipsticks to hit the drugstore and even now, with many others having followed suit since then, they're still some of the best available. They're super rich and pigmented, glide onto the lips like a dream and set down to a semi-matte finish that hangs around without drying the ol' pout out. Plus, they actually layer up pretty well too.
NYX LIQUID LIPSTICKS (SOFT MATTE LIP CREAMS, LIP LINGERIES AND LIQUID SUEDES) - NYX as a brand was certainly something that YouTube introduced me to. I've tried a good few things from them so far but out of everything, the various liquid lipsticks are probably what I was most persuaded into buying due to the online community. The Soft Matte Lip Creams came first, then the Lip Lingeries and finally - the Liquid Suedes - and I have to say, I am a big fan of all of them. They're all different and have their own plus points, but in general they're pigmented, comfortable and fairly durable too - and all with brilliant colour ranges.
RIMMEL KATE MOSS MATTE LIPSTICK IN '107' - A classic. Is there anyone who didn't buy this lippie after seeing and hearing about it here, there and everywhere on YouTube? Every single Autumn/Winter, this gets thrown back into the spotlight and I go and retrieve it from my makeup stash once more and fall in love with it all over again. A beautiful deep purple-y, burgundy shade with an equally-beautiful comfortable matte finish; I don't think I'll ever get tired of this one.
MAC LIPSTICKS - A whole brand of lipsticks which YouTube has always made me lust after - and eventually, begin a collection of - is MAC. They are a YouTube cult classic and for good reason too. They come in a whole host of different formulas and finishes and a really wide colour selection too. I love them and can see why everyone else does too. They may well be slightly more expensive, but they're definitely worth it in my opinion.
MAC LIP LINER IN 'SOAR' - I originally bought this to pair with another MAC Lipstick - 'Mehr' - on recommendation from Lily Pebbles - and I'm really glad I listened up. Not only did Lily's suggestion of pairing the two together persuade me to add it to my shopping list, after hearing many others following suit - it sort of became inevitable that a purchase was gonna be made. Beforehand, this shade alone received a lot of attention over the whole Kylie Jenner thing too and I can definitely see why it gets so much love. It's a kind of deep, mauve-y nude and works so well with a multitude of lipstick hues. It's got a lovely, creamy but still long-lasting texture and could even be scribbled all-over if you fancied.
RIMMEL EXAGGERATE LIP LINER IN 'EAST END SNOB' - In terms of more affordable lip liners, the Exaggerate range from Rimmel have forever been a feature of the online YouTube beauty community and since trying them out a few years back, I can see why. One shade in particular - 'East End Snob' - was always the big favourite of them all and I have to admit, while I do like it, I don't love it as much as I thought I would. It was always raved about for being a fab nude lip liner from the drugstore and though it is a pretty shade, it's a tad too pale pink for my liking. The formula is still bangin' - as is the norm with the Exaggerate liners - but I feel there are other shades in the range which I'd now recommend over this one. Personally, I feel that 'Addiction' is a fair better nude shade in the line-up.
MAYBELLINE BABY LIPS - Concluding this post - and this whole series in general - the Maybelline Baby Lips. How could I not put these in here, eh? Remember way back when everyone went cray cray for these? Like I mean, seriously mad for them. Everyone was anticipating the launch, then when they did get released it was a case of you blink, and you miss 'em. Nowadays, the hype surrounding them has most definitely died right down and you don't hear that much at all about these at all, and I'd definitely say that's understandable. They're packaged up in very cute, pretty packaging and have some equally-pretty colours and tasty flavours to choose from; but at the end of the day, they're just your regular lip balm. I don't see any major difference when I use these over a bog-standard one and though I do use them and like having them in my stash, I don't think I'd rush out and stock up on more right now. Perhaps a slightly more Debbie-Downer end to this post, but hey - I've gotta be honest!
I really do hope you've enjoyed reading through these 'YouTube Made Me Buy It' posts as much as I've thoroughly enjoyed putting them together! It's been so fun to go back through my collection and se just how many of the products I own are basically entirely down to recommendations from the online beauty community. What would you say is your top item that you bought wholly because of YouTube? I'd love to know!
