Wrapping Christmas Presents - A How-To (Kind Of) #DitsyDecember

Wrapping up gifts for your loved ones is one part of the whole festive season that kinda divides opinion. Some people really enjoy(i.e. me) and get really involved in it, while some just can't stand it and look for as many avoidant strategies as possible so I guess this post is for you peeps who fall into the latter category. I'm no expert in wrapping by any means - if I'm honest, it's only in the last few years that I've started getting into it more - but I've definitely picked up some tips 'n tricks over time that I've found to have helped me become just a little more confident with the whole wrapping thang...

CHOOSE A THEME AND STYLE - I feel like this is probably the first step of the whole process for most people - myself included. Before you can actually get any wrapping done and dusted - you need to do a bit of a haul first (more on that below) - and in doing that, you kinda need to decide on just what look you want to go for this year. Once you settle on a colour scheme you can go all cray cray and get all the bits 'n' bobs that you need, safe in the knowledge that everything will go together and you'll have a super-pretty set of presents at the end of it. #PresentGoals, yeah?

STOCK UP ON THE ESSENTIALS - This is a pretty basic one, but before you actually start the often mammoth task of wrapping, it's key that you buy all the essentials. Ensure you've got enough wrapping paper for all your pressies (you'll likely need much more than you think - so best to be safe rather than sorry), invest in a tonne of bows and ribbons and probably the most important one of all - stock up on the sellotape. Cause the last thing you want is to run out midday through a productive wrapping sesh...

LOOK AT THE SITUATION - Personally, I think one of the key aspects of nailing the wrapping game is to look at each present separately and look at the whole situation beforehand. Obviously, no gift is the same (of course, unless you've got multiples for different people) and so each one will most likely require different techniques and just general approach. There may be some which would look better (and basically be easier to wrap) using a gift box or bag and the way you may wish to decorate and style the presents may also vary too.

TAKE YOUR TIME - While Christmas is a pretty hectic time of year, try your best to take your time with your wrapping. Personally, I find the best way to do this is to sort your gifts out gradually and wrap as you go. Rather than leaving it all to one allocated time (or the very last minute), doing a little here and there during the run-up to Christmas will hopefully make the whole thing far less stressful and also give you more time to perfect your wrapping and make your gifts look as pretty as possible.

DECORATE, DECORATE, DECORATE - Finally, if in doubt - throw all of your pretty decorative bits 'n' bobs and hope for the best. And you know what? More often than not, it actually works and your presents will look as though you spent tonnes of time on them (and using tonnes of proper technique too) when in reality - you definitely didn't.
