Excuse the blatant rhyme in the title, but I feel it's time to talk all things cream highlighter stick-related. I'll admit, in the past I never used to be that big a fan of them - compared to other highlighter formulas (especially other variations of creams and liquids), I'd always find them to be quite dry and just generally more difficult to work with and apply and so I'd always tend to steer clear. However, over the past few months or so I've come across a fair few which are completely opposite of that and are making me finally understand what all the fuss and hype is about...
COLLECTION SPEEDY HIGHLIGHTER IN 'PEARL SHEEN' - I think this was the first cream highlighter stick I really fell for and made me start to realise that actually, they can be rather good after all. This is a super-budget offering (I think it's actually the cheapest of all these here) but it's probably my favourite of them all. It has the creamiest consistency, quite literally melting onto the skin and blending into all of the high points of the face like a dream. The pretty, pearly hue complements my paler skintone perfectly and the formula simply provides a gorgeous, natural-looking sheen, with no glittery chunks or flecks to be found. All in all - it does exactly what it says on the tin...
TANYA BURR COSMETICS CHEEK ILLUMINATOR IN 'FOREVER SUMMER' - When Tanya released her 'Glow Your Own Way' Collection last year and added three cream cheek sticks to her range, I instantly knew I had to pick this shade up to give a go. Housed in pretty beautiful rose gold metallic packaging, but I have to admit that the product inside is just as good, if not even better. This has a slightly more pinky undertone to it, and so can be simply used as a glowy highlighter alone on the top of the cheekbones, or can almost be doubled up as a rosy blush too if you take it down a little to the apples of your cheeks aswell. It's still very subtle though, so if you're not as much of a blush fan and just generally a lover of pinky tones on your cheeks (like me), it's not gonna turn you into Aunt Sally - don't worry.
BARRY M ILLUMINATING STROBING STICK IN 'FROSTY PINK' - This one from Barry M follows on from the above as it once again has a slight rosey-ness to it - hence the name - but again, it doesn't translate as super heavy once applied onto the skin. This formula is a tad less creamy, but that can be easily fixed using your fingers to warm the product up. I usually prefer to take this one onto my fingertips to apply as that helps with making the texture a little more creamy and buff in nicely. It's worth it in the end though - this gives off a lovely radiance, containing a little more shimmer than the previous two, but it's still finely-milled enough to sit well on the complexion.
SOAP AND GLORY 'GLOW ALL OUT' HIGHLIGHT AND SCULPT STICK - Lastly, the most recent addition to my little 'Cheek Sticks' collection. I received this one as part of a free gift I got when making a couple of S&G purchases back in December and was super excited to give it a go and let me tell you - I am not disappointed. This runs along similar lines as the Collection one - with a pretty, icy, champagne-esque tinge to it - and is super, super pigmented. Don't get me wrong, it's still not overloaded with chunky glitter by any means, but the actual colour and sheen that it gives is very intense and full-on. A little certainly goes a long way and if you want a subtle effect, just be a little more light-handed, but if you want some serious glow - this is where you need to head for, stat.
