If you can't go red on your lips at Christmas - when can you? I personally love wearing a good ol' red lip anytime of the year, but as soon as December rolls around - it becomes even more of a go-to. So, what better time to share with you all my top selection of red lippies that I love? Let's get started...
BARRY M MATTE ME UP LIQUID LIP PAINT IN 'PAPARAZZI' - You all know by now how utterly obsessed I am with these matte liquid lipsticks from Barry M. They are by far my favourite liquid lip formula I've tried so far and this colour is certainly one of my favourites. A classic, true red that's super Christmassey - I think this has to be a strong contender for the red I'll wear on The Big Day itself. Not only does the bright, blue-undertones make it uber-festive; the powdery matte finish makes it pretty long-lasting too, so I feel this would be something that'd withstand the likes of Christmas Dinner pretty well...
RIMMEL STAY MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOUR IN 'FIRE STARTER' - I know a lot of these lipsticks in this post are in liquidised lipstick form, but nowadays, if I wear a red (or any bright, bold shade) - it'll always tend to be matte - and matte liquid lips are by far my favourite. They're admittedly not the most comfortable, but they are the most hard-wearing and for that - especially at Christmas-time - I am willing to go with it. However, this range from Rimmel is admittedly not the worst offender for drying the ol' lips out - actually I find them to be rather light and creamy on the lips and this colour especially is just awesome. It's very, very similar to the above offering from Barry M (#LipstickLoverProblems) - a classic red. It's perhaps a smidgen darker - and I mean literally by only the tiniest amount - and nevertheless, I love this colour and I cannot wait to rock it this Christmas.

MUA VELVET LIP LACQUER IN 'RECKLESS' - Another matte liquid lip in a gorgeous rouge hue - this has been a favourite of mine for quite a while. I discovered it around this time last year - when on the hunt for my perfect Christmas red - and have loved it ever since. This is, again, a classic red and I know I said both of the two above were bright, but I think this one has even more of a 'pop' to it. It's a proper 'cherry' red that's super intense and yet also super flattering at the same time and again, it's got that powdery matte finish that I love. This is probably one of the most affordable options in this post and if you're on a really tight budget - I'd really recommend you check it out!
MAYBELLINE SUPER STAY MATTE INK LIQUID LIPSTICK IN 'PIONEER' - A pretty recent discovery for me has been this awesome new range of - again - liquid lipsticks from Maybelline. However, this time, there is a difference. Not only is this colour in particular a slightly deeper, richer and more burgundy-toned red than the above three I've mentioned so far; the formula is also a lot different too. It goes on glossy and doesn't dry down to the powdery matte finish I usually look for (and like the above three liquid lips do), but while usually that would mean things would wear off quickly, move around and just generally not act like a liquid lipstick should - this formula doesn't. It somehow manages to not dry down matte, matte, and yet still act as if it has. Bizarre, I know, but it's true. The slightly glossy, almost-patent effect makes a nice change from all of the other matte, matte liquefied lips in my stash - without compromising on longevity - and also feels probably the most comfortable, least moisture-zapping to wear. Which is always a bonus, right?
COLLECTION VELVET KISS MATTE LIP CREAM IN 'ROSIE' - Finally, we have a liquid lipstick, but also kinda not. These 'NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams'-dupes from Collection make for a great 'halfway point' between a traditional matte liquid lipstick and a creamy lipstick - offering the matte-ish finish, but without the discomfort and though the NYX formula is great, Collection's is practically identical and also around half the price too! For such a thin and lightweight formula, they give such an intense wash of colour and this true red especially just looks super stunning on the lips.
MAC MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'RUBY WOO' - This is a pretty recent addition to my stash and I just cannot believe it's taken me this long to invest in this colour. I have a couple of MAC Lipsticks already and this shade has been on my Wishlist for a good while now - along with many others, admittedly. It's the one, main red lipstick from MAC that everyone hypes up and adores - no matter their skin-tone, it seems, too - and eventually, I just had to bite the bullet and give it a go myself and I am so glad I did. A gorgeous, blue-toned red that just looks so flattering and complementary with so many looks - especially at this festive time of year - and with such a vibrant, bright finish. Unlike the other matte bullet lippies included here, this one is really, really matte and powdery - almost like a liquid lipstick-type finish. It is quite dry to apply - and therefore, quite dry to wear - and does drag on the lips a little, but once it's on and you're happy with it - it fo' sho' ain't going anywhere and oh my, does it look awesome. It's a tad pricier - but it is so, so worth it if you're after a good red this Christmas.
RIMMEL KATE MOSS MATTE LIPSTICK IN '111' - Moving away from the liquid lipsticks to more of your traditional bullet lipstick format, we have a good ol' classic from Rimmel. I know everyone and their Nan hypes over the infamous '107' from the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick range - myself included - but for this post, I thought I'd throw in another firm favourite of mine from the same range that's similar, but a little more of a deep red as opposed to a straight-up berry that I'd consider '107' to be. The formula is matte, but as with most matte lipsticks that come in bullet form, is still slightly creamy - so it lasts and wears better than super glossy lips, but perhaps not as well as a powdery liquid lip. I guess it's ideal if you want a compromise between comfort and longevity and combined with the deep (but not too deep) red colour - it's a winner for this time of year...
MAKEUP REVOLUTION ROSE GOLD MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'RED CARPET' - Another super-bargainous option for a bangin' red lip is this super pretty offering from Makeup Revolution. This is another red that sits slightly more on the deeper end of the spectrum and it's a pretty recent addition to my stash. When picking up another colour from the same range at the Makeup Revolution stand, this hue caught my eye and I just had to pick it up for this festive season. It's such a pretty, rich red - but it is also ever-so-slightly unique to anything else in this line-up. When you look super closely at the bullet, you can see tiny flecks of pretty gold shimmer and that translates so beautifully when applied onto the lips. It's subtle, yet noticeable and helps add dimension - which is especially helpful for the matte finish - and also adds even more of a fun, festive flavour too.

TANYA BURR COSMETICS LIPSTICK IN 'WILD SAFARI' - If a more orange-y red lip is what you're after this festive season - look no further than this one from Tanya Burr Cosmetics. Now, this is one is much different finish-wise to anything else in this line-up is this is not at all matte. It's not super-glossy, but it's certainly more of a sheeney, 'traditional' cream lipstick formula than the rest. Sometimes, it's nice to have a change from the matte finishes - especially at this time of year, when the weather can make your complexion feel a tad more dry and dehydrated - and I really love, love, LOVE this colour. It's a red, but with this warm, rich, orange undertone and it's super bright and intense too. Though I have a fair few deeper reds in this line-up, it's those ones with that bright finish that always make me really think of Christmas and this one is certainly one of those. Just make sure you pair it with a good, waxy lip liner that'll ensure the sheeny formula is held in place and you're good to go.
MAYBELLINE COLOR DRAMA VELVET LIP PENCIL IN 'LIGHT IT UP' - This chubby lip pencil from Maybelline is something that I love scribbling all over my lips for an easy touch of red over Christmas. Lip pencils are great as a little two-in-one - both as a lip liner, and then for filling the whole lip in with too - and this range in particular is just awesome in that department. It's got a similar, matte-but-creamy consistency to the likes of the matte bullet lipsticks I've included so far and I love how this gives such a intense veil of colour, with a really crisp, super-precise application - something which is always an essential in my opinion when it comes to wearing a red lip. Mwah!
