If you haven't guessed already, highlighter is quite possibly one of my favourite aspects of makeup. I love, love, LOVE getting my glow on and using and trying out all different formulas and formulas of glow-givers - and I also really enjoy experimenting with different methods of application too. Usually, with creams and liquids I prefer going in with my good ol' fingers, but when it comes to powders (my perfect highlighter formula), I really like using a brush and over the years, I've certainly come across a fair few favourites. Let's have a little closer look at them...
ZOEVA 134 LUXE POWDER FUSION BRUSH - What better place to start than with my current go-to - and has been this way for some time now? Ever since picking this brush up a few months back, it has basically been the only one I've reached for when it comes to coating myself in the shimmery stuff. It's dense enough to pack on the pigment, but also fluffy enough to disperse it nicely too. The shape fits the tops of the cheekbones - and all of the typical areas you highlight really - perfectly and the rounded tip means you can really buff and blend the highlight on nicely too!
REAL TECHNIQUES SETTING BRUSH - If I do want something kinda similar to apply my highlight with, this is the brush I'll reach for. It's rounded and slightly tapered towards the tip once again, but it's slightly more densely-packed and less 'wispy' - if you get what I mean - so it packs more of a punch at once. It does still disperse the product, it's though not so much so as the above offering from Zoeva, so basically, if you want a more concentrated, blinding glow at once - this is the one to go for.
REAL TECHNIQUES ANGLED HIGHLIGHTER BRUSH - Another awesome offering from Real Techniques, I know, but as we all know already, they're definitely one of my favourite brush brands. This one, as the name suggests, has a unique angled cut which I actually find makes application so super quick and easy. Especially for the tops of the cheekbones, the shape just fits perfectly. Again, this is a more densely-packed type of brush that does move the product about, but mainly focuses on packing it on and giving a good pigmentation pay-off and I'd actually say this is even more so than the above. It definitely gives good colour pay-off almost instantly, but I've found with a lighter hand, it's pretty good at blending things out too.
REAL TECHNIQUES FAN BRUSH - Finally, we have probably the best for a more 'sheer' application. Now, we all know that a 'sheer' highlight is not my usual go-to, but if I do ever want to go a little lighter (which isn't very often) this is my favourite brush for exactly that. However, I'll admit that personally, my most regular use of it typically comes when I want to either blend out my highlight I've applied with one of my above other - more densely-packed - brushes, or if I want to build things up more gradually and perhaps layer a few different glow-givers to create a more 'multi-dimensional' type of look.
