Whilst Christmas for me is all about the classic, red lip; New Year's is most definitely all about a good nude. When I go out - you know, 'out out' - pretty much anytime of year, I always wear a nude lip, so I guess that explains why a nude lip is my go-to for NYE too. Not only does it go with everything and anything, it's also a fail-safe option that's easy to maintain and keep looking good throughout the night when things inevitably get a little
JEFFREE STAR COSMETICS VELOUR LIQUID LIPSTICK IN 'MANNEQUIN' - This is a pretty new addition to my collection (as you would have seen in this Beauty Bay Haul from earlier this month) but from the few times I've tried and worn it since having it delivered - I can already tell it's a new favourite of mine - and one that is most definitely worthy of being included in this line-up. This is a gorgeous, light, pinky-nude that's just perfectly pale enough to work as a light nude for my skin-tone, without looking like #ConcealerLips. And that is something that can be pretty tricky to come across, so it's safe to say I'm rather pleased to have finally tried this out. But, if that wasn't enough - the formula of these is just awesome. They're really liquidy, but soon dry down to a super powdery-matte finish and yet, they never look or feel drying or uncomfortable in any way. They feel so lightweight to wear and honestly, once they're on - they last really, really well - with no transferring and only minimal wear around the very centre of my lips throughout the day. Now, for NYE, when you want everything to really lock into place and stay looking perfect all night long, with minimal touch-up's needed - that sounds like a pretty good option, right?
BARRY M MATTE ME UP LIQUID LIP PAINT IN 'MINIMALIST' - If you're after something similar, but at a more budget-friendly price - look no further than this offering from Barry M. This range remains my favourite affordable matte liquid lip range and this shade is the perfect pinky-brown nude - very comparable to the one I mentioned above! Again, this is the perfect kind of light nude for my paler skin-tone in that it's light, but not too light and the formula is again a winner in my books. Similarly to the above, it also applies onto the lips really quite liquidy and runny, but soon mattifies itself and sets down into a super-matte finish. It never transfers or moves around once dried and I find it to be another really hard-wearing formula too - which is always a must for NYE...
MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY MATTE INK UN-NUDE LIQUID LIPSTICK IN 'SEDUCTRESS' - The final liquid lip for this line-up - if you're after something just as long-wearing, but perhaps not as uber-matte - this one from Maybelline is just so, so great. Whilst these don't dry down to a powdery-type finish like the previous two, they definitely do fully lock into place - but instead just retain a slightly shiny, patent-like finish. It appears more 'glossy' on the lips and perhaps feels and looks less moisture-zapping as a result (though I personally never find the above two to behave that way anyway, despite being fully matte) and this colour is another perfect nude for me. It's a little deeper than the previous two mentioned, though still being on the lighter end of the spectrum and still very much rosey-toned. It's in no way a deep, dark nude, but I guess it's got more of a warm mauve-y base that just gives it more depth and I love it.
REVOLUTION ICONIC MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'CHAUFFEUR' - Personally, for something like NYE, matte is always the way to go to keep things the most long-lasting and hard-wearing and so if the top thing (a matte liquid lipstick) isn't so much up your alley, try the next best option - a matte bullet lipstick. And, a great super affordable one is most definitely this one from Revolution. I adore this shade - both in the satin and matte formula - but of course, for this post, I had to give the latter a mention. This mauvey-brown nude is basically like my perfect 'MLBB'-type hue, that's almost identical to my natural lip colour, just a little 'more' and I love it. It applies onto the lips pretty matte from the off, but still doesn't drag on the lips and is so easy to apply - with a super-opaque finish and super-precise shape too!
MAC MATTE LIPSTICK IN 'VELVET TEDDY' - This offering from MAC is basically near-identical to the above - but I guess if you're after treating yourself or someone else, this is another gorgeous matte nude lip bullet! Again, this is the perfect, matte MLBB colour for me and another ideal option for celebrating NYE too - when you want an awesome colour that stays put all night long! Like the Revolution offering, this formula is so matte on the lips from the off, yet never makes the lips feel dry as a desert - nor does it make them appear that way either! It's a Christmas miracle...
