If you've been round these parts before, or for a while, you'll most likely know that when it comes to removing my makeup and doing that first, initial cleanse - Garnier Micellar Water will always have my heart. Cheap, easy to use and most importantly, effective. It removes my makeup in no time at all, doesn't leave my sensitive skin or eye area feeling aggregated in any way and as the name would suggest, feels quite literally like nothing at all. Basically, I love it and so, when I came across this product in my local Boots the other week, I knew I had to pick it up to test out. This is the Garnier Micellar Milky Cleansing Water. Yes, you read that right - milky. As I said, I soon put one in my basket to give a go and now I have, I think it's time I share my thoughts...
I really wasn't sure of what to expect with this product as the whole premise of the classic micellar water is just that - its water-like texture. Would this be the same, just with a creamier feel, or would the whole consistency be altered too? Well, it's safe to say that it's the former. As soon as you put this onto a cotton pad, you'll notice it's definitely got a slightly thicker, more gel-like feel. It's runny, but not super fluid like the original and doesn't absorbs as much into the cotton pads, so I find that you have to make more of an effort to disperse it evenly, so you don't just get one big blob balancing on the surface that will inevitably fall onto your bathroom floor as soon as you try and start massaging it over your face. Honestly, from that point, I'd definitely say that it's not as user-friendly as the original, at least to start with.
However, I obviously persevered and continued with the perhaps mot important thing - how the product itself actually works. As soon as I began massaging this into my face, eyes, lips - you get the gist - I noticed it was really quickly removing my makeup, without much effort or time at all. Especially on my eye makeup, where I wear a lot of shadow, liner, mascara and so on - holding this on a cotton pad against my lid for a few seconds managed to really break down the most of it and a gentle massage pretty much took care of the rest. But, though it did work just as well in terms of effectively removing my makeup, I did notice that the thicker texture kind of felt too 'heavy' for my eye area, if that makes any sense. It in no way irritated or 'burnt' in anyway, but unlike the original, which feels so easy and lightweight, this one just felt a little too much, you know? A shame, as I loved how effectively this removed my eye makeup, but I think I prefer the feeling of this one for my face and lips. Cause, although for those you still get a little of those same issues with dispersing the product, the way it actually feels is s, so much nicer. And, to be honest, I guess you kind of repeat the benefits of the milky consistency the best this way too. The whole premise of this product is that its creamier formula is more moisturising on your skin, whilst removing makeup at the same time. And so far, I definitely agree that my face and lips always feel nicely-nourished afterwards - but without any greasy film being left behind!
So, I guess a bit of a mixed bag with this one. It's thicker consistency, whilst it does feel a little more moisturising on the skin, in my opinion means actually using this isn't as easy and straightforward as a classic, standard micellar water and it's not as versatile too - I don't like using it around my eye area, but it's fine on my face and lips. However, there's no denying that it certainly does remove makeup, pretty quickly and without much effort at all. Would I say it's anymore effective than the original? I'm not sure and I suppose that, combined with my other reservations, is where I come to the conclusion that whilst I like this, I don't prefer it to my holy grail, classic Garnier Micellar Water. So, I'll definitely be getting my use out of this bottle, but I don't think I'll be making a repurchase anytime soon...
