New Makeup Haul + First Impressions!

Recently, I've been buying a lot of new makeup. A lot of it from Revolution (or one of their other brands that fall under their brand umbrella) - but more on that another time, as for today I want to showcase a few of the non-Revolution items I've bought lately. Cause there's are a few things which don't fall under that category, but I was just as super-excited to try! And the other day, I finally did just that so, not only am gonna show you all what I've picked up, but also a few of my initial, first impressions of each product as we go along too...

First up, we have the Maybelline City Bronzer. I spotted this in the 'New In' section on Superdrug online and was instantly intrigued. This is described as a 'bronzer and contour powder' - huh? Never two things we typically see advertised together on one product, but that alone meant I had to give it a go to see whether it works or not. Supposedly, you can use this all-over your face to give a bronzed glow, or as a contour powder in the hollows of your cheeks, jawline, temples, nose - and so on. I picked up the lightest shade of the two - '250 Medium Warm' - and to be honest, when I actually received this in my order, I can kinda see what they're on about. First off, it's a completely matte formula (ideal for bronzing or contouring), but the colour of this is also a little different. In the pan, it's certainly got that bronzer-type warmth to it, but it also looks slightly ashy at the same time. The depth of the shade itself looked to be a pretty good match for my paler skin-tone, so all in all, I was pretty eager to get trying it out. And so far, I really rather like it. It's definitely more cool-toned than my usual bronzer (CYO's When The Sun Don't Shine Bronzing Powder in 'Fair', FYI), but yet not as cool-toned as my favourite contour (the NYX Blush in 'Taupe') so I definitely feel like it works as a good in-between. It helps bronze up the face and add some well-needed wamrth, whilst also giving some shape and structure at the same time and of course, the ashy undertone means it never looks orangey or over-done. Yay! The formula is just pigmented enough to show up, without depositing too much colour at once and the buttery formula just blends out like a dream aswell. This won't be a new go-to bronzer of mine, nor contour - but what it will be is something I'll reach for when I want a handy two-in-one that perfectly marries the two steps together, without having to use two separate products. I don't have anything else like this in my collection already so I'm really happy I tried this out!

Then, we have a fair few things for the ol' Eyes. The first, I actually featured a couple of months back in a haul here and was so eager to get to testing it out, but have only now got round to using it. I know, I know. This is the Lottie London X Thuyle 'Living My Best Life' Palette. Everyone and their Nan has been raving on and on about this palette and I feel like I'm the last person to give it a go (probs cause I am). But, in my opinion, it was definitely more than worth the wait. I love, love, LOVE this palette! You get a grand total of 14 shades for well under a tenner and the shadows themselves are awesome too. On the top row you get a great, varied selection of shimmers - from your neutral golds, pinks and berries to some more colourful blues and greens - and then on the bottom row are all of your matte shades. These are all more on the 'safe' side of things, being all different tones and depths of browns and mauves, but they're great to pair with any of the shimmery shadows above. Basically, I really like this colour story of this palette - so many colour combinations and types of looks you can create with it, whether you want to go more neutral or more colourful with your eye look. The shadows themselves are also great quality too. The shimmers are super intense and metallic, without even the need to possibly apply with a finger or a wet brush, they glide on easily and just really create a nice impact of rich colour too. The mattes are also gorgeous - really creamy and buttery in texture, super-pigmented and blend out and layer together to a seamless finish in no time at all. This is definitely a new favourite eyeshadow palette of mine - I've already created so many looks with it and can't wait to have a play around even more! Then, also from Lottie London, I recently picked up all four of their new 'Eye Foils' Eyeshadow Toppers. This product itself definitely isn't a new launch (you may remember me featuring some of the original colours many times before round these parts) but the brand not-too-long-ago added a quad of new colours to the line-up and naturally, being a fan of them already, I had to pick all of them up. They are 'Feels' (an iridescent white), 'Too Much' (a silvery taupe), 'Shady' (a pink with golden reflects) and 'Sell Out' (a deep purple with blue reflects). So far, as I kinda thought - I really, really like them all. Perfect for layering over shadow to add some extra sparkle or took on a finer brush to create something a little more detailed - these. are. awesome. So super-shimmery and reflective, easy to apply, dry super quickly and never crease, fade or move throughout the day either. Just as great as all of the others I've got in my collection, just in four new, equally-beautiful shades! Lastly for eyes, I'm sure you've all seen or heard about the brand new mascara from Maybelline - the Snapscara Mascara. I generally tend to like and get along with most mascaras from Maybelline, so whenever they launch a new one, I tend pick it up to to give it a go and having done that, it's safe to say that I quite like this one. I wouldn't say it's my favourite mascara I've tried, nor my favourite from Maybelline specifically - but it's definitely not the worst mascara I've ever layered onto my lashes either. I definitely would say that it's gotten much better and more promising the more I've used it, so I definitely feel it's one of those mascaras that needs a bit of usage before you get to the good stuff - but once you do, it's pretty good. It doesn't give a lot of thickness or volume, but it does provide a lot of length and also, just like it claims, really separates my lashes and never clumps up either. Because it doesn't really 'do it all' (a.k.a. provide length, volume, thickness, separation etc.) like I generally like my mascaras to do, this isn't the best mascara I've tried, but I do really like how long and fluttery it makes my lashes look, plus like I said, it seems to be getting better the more I use it too!

For Lips, we have a couple of lip liners! I love a good lip liner - as I'm sure we all well know by now - and perhaps even more so, I love a good nude lip liner. Having already tried a couple of the NYX Slim Lip Pencils before, I wanted to give another shade a go - so I picked up 'Nude Beige'. A light, beigey-nude colour (as you can probably imagine) with a lovely ashy undertone - this makes for a great nude lip liner to overline, slightly contour and really shape your lips nicely. The formula is just as before - creamy also slightly waxy, well-pigmented and stays in place - whilst the colour works perfectly with any of my lighter nude lip colours. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this! Then, I also picked up the Collection Lip Definer in 'Cappuccino' a while ago, and finally got round to giving it a go. I've heard a lot of good things about the lip liners from Collection in the past - and so far, I'm not disappointed. A wind-up lip pencil this time, so not only is this one possibly even more convenient, but the product inside is just as awesome too! This colour is a deeper brown and more warm-toned, so works well if I want something completely different from the other lip liner. The formula is a little more creamy (as twist-up lip liners generally tend to be), but it still allows for complete control over application and once applied, doesn't budge at all - which is always an essential for a good lip liner...

Last, but certainly by no means least - a final finishing touch - a brand new setting spray! We all know that the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray is my holy grail and I'm doubtful anything else will ever really change that, but sometimes, mainly when new setting sprays launch - especially ones on the more affordable/drugstore side of things - I am tempted to try something different and that's definitely the case with this. So, recently I picked up the new Collection Primed and Ready Dewy Finish Setting Spray. I actually quite liked the original version of this that Collection launched a while back, plus if there's anything that'll make me try a setting spray - it's one that's dubbed as a 'dewy finish' setting spray. So, those two things combined meant giving this a go was kinda inevitable. I've used it a few times so far and I really like it. I mean, nothing's ever gonna replace my holy grail All Nighter, but for a much more affordable setting spray - this one ain't half bad. First off, the spray on this is so super-fine and lovely and just really gently mists your face nicely, whilst still getting that product on there. The product itself doesn't overtly give a super-dewy effect, but it does help to settle any powdery finish on the skin and give a more skin-like look - which I really like. But, of course, in terms of the most important thing - lasting power - my makeup lasted pretty impeccably throughout the days I've used this, so I'm rather impressed. I definitely will be reaching for this stuff for now on the days when I perhaps don't require the super-duper locked down effect that the All Nighter gives me.
