Tried and Tested: Revolution X Carmi 'Make Magic' Palette

I remember when this palette first came out a few months ago now and I kinda eyed it up a little. It appealed to me far more than Carmi's first palette with Revolution - both in terms of format and colour scheme - but I was so engrossed in other releases/products at the time I just didn't get round to picking it up. But, in the weeks and months that followed I started seeing more and more amazing looks using it and pretty glowing reviews about it too. So eventually, I couldn't resist in picking it up for myself - especially when I had a birthday discount code from Beauty Bay at the time. I know, I know - this was back in May that I got this palette - but it's only now I've got round to finally trying it out. Again, I've had various other products I wanted to try/get use out of first - but finally, it was time to let this beauty have it's moment in the spotlight. Introducing, the Revolution X Carmi 'Make Magic' Palette...

Remember the Jewel Collection Eyeshadow Palettes that Revolution brought out this past Christmas? Well, this palette actually has the exact same layout as those - and seemingly the same formula set-up too. Cause, not only has this got two rows of smaller pans of your 'standard' mattes and shimmers at the bottom, at the very top it's got these extra large pans of a kind of cream-to-powder hybrid formula that I remember was the main thing everyone loved and raved so much about the Jewel Collection palettes. And whilst I missed out on that seasonal launch, when CarmiMUA's second collaboration came around and I saw the palette was laid out the exact same way, I was instantly intrigued. This was the first time I'd seen the layout since! And actually, the colour scheme called out me even more than the Jewel Collection Palettes, so I was pretty happy I waited it out to see Revolution re-use the concept.

Inside this palette you get quite a unique and unusual selection of colours, if you know what I mean. In terms of the 'regular' shadows you've got warm toned reds, pinks and oranges and some handy neutrals - but you've also got some pops of blue, green, yellow and purple thrown in there too. And that kind of colour scheme seems to run throughout the top row of creamy, foiled shadows too. You've got your pinks and golds, but you've also got a couple of stunning blues and - perhaps the main thing that sold me this palette in the end - the gorgeous blue/brown/purple/pink multichrome at the very end. Oh. My. Goodness. It was after seeing so many photos and videos of people using and swatching this absolute stunner of a shade that I decided this palette had to be mine, for once and for all. But, when I finally got round to trying it (and the rest of the palette) the other week, how well would it actually work in real life?

Well, I am actually just as much in love as I hoped I would be! I've used the palette a lot this past couple of weeks and so far, I am really, really enjoying it. I've used nearly all of the shades in a variety of different looks and honestly, there's not one that I've been in anyway unimpressed by. In terms of the bottom two rows of smaller, 'regular' pans - the mattes are well pigmented and blend pretty easily and smoothly, whilst the shimmers are really creamy in texture and also pretty intense and foiled too, even when just applied with a dry brush. And if those are the 'standard' shimmers, that only gave me even more excitement for how the top row of creamy shimmers would perform. And oh boy, was I right to be. These six pans of cream-to-powder, metallic goodness are perhaps some of the nicest eyeshadows I've tried from Revolution, ever. It's a type of formula I don't think I've ever seen or tried from them before - even their fully cream shadow palette, Foil Frenzy felt and performed slightly differently to these beauties - and like many others have said, it's a type of texture that feels and works on the eyes so much more luxurious and high-end than it actually is. Whilst they feel so creamy and almost wet in the pan, they almost self-set and act more like your traditional powder shadow when you actually apply them. There's no need to layer over a matching powder shimmer to stop them moving about or creasing up - they just stay as you apply them all day long. But because they are creamy to start off with, they just go on so intense and foiled-like from the get-go and I just love them. They certainly apply best with a finger (they don't really pick up at all with a brush) and so are more something I'd use when doing a 'softer' look when I don't cut the crease at all - but I actually kinda think they lend themselves perfectly to those less-precise styles of looks anyway, so I'm more than happy to use them like that. I definitely think they'll be a new go-to when I want to do something less structured on the eyes! Every shade has been just as amazing as the other, but perhaps my favourite of them all is indeed that far right multichrome shade. You know, the one that basically sold me the entire palette and I was super-eager to get on my eyelids, asap? Well, having now given it a go in action - I'd highly suggest buying this palette for that shade alone. It is so damn beautiful, eye-catching and just a little jawdropping, in all honesty. It's so unique to anything else I own in my collection or even seen on the market in general. At first you see its deep brown base, then you get flashes of bright blue and teal and then some warmer tones of purple and pink. It's just amazing. As are the entire top row to be hones,t but I think if I had to pick a top, favourite, favourite - it'd have to be that one.

So, all in all, I'm super happy that I finally gave in and tried this palette out! As if the two rows of 'regular' mattes and shimmers aren't enough - in terms of both the colours and formula, the selection of gorgeous cream-to-powders on the top row alone make adding this palette to my collection worthwhile. And for just £10 too? What a steal! I just know this is going to be a palette I come back to, time and time again in my collection in the future...
