Ever since stumbling across her about a year ago, the lovely Missa (a.k.a. MakeMeUpMissa) has fast become one of my go-to makeup YouTube channels/Instagrams. And not only is she so super talented at makeup (she's self taught too!), she also has some pretty fab product recommendations aswell. I've bought a couple of things in the past that's she sung the praises of constantly and every time I think I've been nothing short of impressed. So, after hearing her rave about the Revolution Pro Skin Finish Powders (in particular, the shade 'Opalescent') over and over again, recently I finally decided I had to try it out for myself...
As the name implies, this is a skin 'finish' - not a highlighter, as you may initially think. Rather than being a super-intense, blinding powder, this is instead more of a subtle, sheen-ey product that (whilst you can use as a highlighter if you want a more 'barely there' type of glow - #Can'tRelate) is more designed to be used all over the face to add an overall radiant appearance to the skin. You can use it to set your makeup or just use it over the top of your usual set skin (which is my preferred way of using it) and in theory, it should give your complexion a more glowy look, without using a more 'obvious' highlighter which you only tend to use in more specific areas of your face anyway! I have to admit it was only really brought to my attention after seeing Missa use it and rave about it so many times in so many of her amazing tutorials, but I obviously really liked what I saw/heard, so I finally decided it was time for me to give it a go too. And with us having fairly similar skin-tones, I decided to plump for the same shade she loves - 'Opalescent' - which is basically a pale gold with both icy white and copper marbling running through it. Sounds good, right? Well, so far - it really is! The first time I cracked it open I decided to try it a couple of different ways to see how it really works. I first took some on a smaller brush (more like the sort of brush I use for highlighting the face) and used it - you guessed it - as a highlighter! And when doing this I could really see the difference between a product like this and an 'actual' highlighter. Because whilst it did deposit a nice glow to the skin, it was definitely more of a 'natural' sheen rather than a wham-bam, blinding gleam that a highlighter (or at least, the types of highlighters I love and use) gives. I had to really build it up to get it to really show on the skin in that 'highlighter' type of way, but I have to admit that I still really liked the way it looked on the skin. Whilst I'll always be a lover of an intense highlighter, I could still appreciate how subtle, yet still noticeable of a sheen this gave. It just looked like a natural sheen and just kinda made my skin looked 'healthy', yanno?
However, another day I decided to use it more like how it is more 'intended' to be and also how I've seen others use and rave about it for - as more of an 'all over' type thing - and let me tell you, that's when I really fell in love with this product. Used with a larger, fluffier powder brush and taken more all over the complexion - still focusing on the centre and high points, just less precisely as when properly 'highlighting' - and oh my goodness, I love it. It just makes you skin look so radiant, glowy and healthy - but without any noticeable chunky glitter or even shimmer to be seen! 'Opalescent' is a really good colour for me as it's just light enough, but the warm copper running through it stops it from being too icy and pale on the skin (no white cast to be seen here - yay!). I don't know how it does it as you really can't see anything on the skin, but it just instantly makes the complexion look so much more 'alive' and multidimensional again. Especially if I've used a more matte foundation (like my Revolution Conceal and Define) or simply in general everyday when I've set/baked my face and really want to bring some life back into my face again - I think this product will be something I'll be getting a tonne of use out of from now on. It's the sort of product that I've always wanted in my collection and now, I've come across it - and it's from Revolution and is super-affordable! What's not to love?
