Tried and Tested: Revolution X Roxxsaurus 'Ride Or Die' and 'Colour Burst' Palettes

Another month, another Revolution collaboration that I picked up a while ago and have finally got round to giving a go! And this time, we have Revolution x Roxxsaurus! This collection actually comprised of three palettes - a highlight/contour palette and then two eyeshadow palettes (which are the two which I personally chose to give a whirl)! One's slightly more 'neutral', whilst the other is more bright, bold and colourful. Both are super pretty, but what did I think of them when actually putting them into practice? Let's find out...

First up, we have the Revolution X Roxxsaurus 'Ride or Die' Palette. This retails at £10 (as is typical for most palettes of this size from Revolution) which is great and as the name of the palette suggests - this is your prefect, 'everyday' kind of palette. Housed in a gorgeous white marble box, the palette itself actually is cream-coloured with a super-metallic gold lid - with Roxi's name of course emblazoned across the front! The packaging set-up reminds me a lot of the Soph Extra Spice and actually, inside the shadows and shade selection remind me a little of it too. I have sen this said a few times by other people too but admittedly, having compared them both in real life and used them both separately - I would say that whilst they are comparable, there are still noticeable difference, which is of course great. Full of mainly warm tones, but also with some cooler tones thrown in for good measure and whilst it is mainly neutral-based, you do have a couple of pops of colour with some brighter reds, pinks, a yellow and even a gorgeous teal green! So there's still some good variety in this palette and of course, with the word 'neutral' being quite a vast term these days regarding eyeshadow - that's likely why! Quality-wise, I actually really rate this palette. I've used nearly every shade so far and every one has been just as great the rest. The mattes apply with decent pigment, build well, blend really easily and pretty quickly and combine and layer together well to create a variety of looks. Then, shimmer-wise, there are actually two different formulas in this palette - your 'regular' shimmer shadows and then your cream-to-powder hybrid formula. Remember the Foil Frenzy Palette that came out a while back - which was crammed full exclusively of gorgeous cream to powder, intense, foiled shadows? Well, there's some of these in this palette! An interesting decision that I personally really like as it adds something a little different to this palette. You've got your normal powder shimmers which are pretty intense and metallic themselves, but also these Foil Frenzy formula which just are even more so. As normal with this kind of texture, they don't pick up at all with any kind of brush so you will need to use a fingertip to apply but do that and they works amazingly.

Then, we come to the second palette I picked up - and the second eyeshadow palette of the collaboration - the Revolution X Roxxsaurus Colour Burst Palette! The more colourful, vibrant, bright, bold - whatever you want to call it - of the two. But it's not just like your typical, classic 'rainbow' palette though. Yes, there's a lot of your classic rainbow colours, but they're all a little different tone-wise and of course, with a mix of mattes and shimmers (and again like before, some Foil Frenzy formulas thrown in too) - there's even more variety in the types of colours you've got to play with and as a result, the sort of looks you can create too! Basically, I felt this palette was a little different - both overall and especially so when it comes to Revolution and their collaboration palettes - so I was eager to give it a whirl. However, I'm afraid to say that I was a little disappointed when it came to actually putting the palette into practice. Whilst some shades - both in terms of the mattes and the shimmers - were gorgeous in terms of formula and finish, others were just a little lackluster, in my opinion. Whilst some mattes were really nicely pigmented and applied and blended like a dream, some others just needed a tonne of building up to get them to decent pigment (and even then, I wasn't really happy with the result) and the same kind of went for the shimmers too. With both the normal and Foil Frenzy - whilst some applied so intense and shimmery, others just didn't and even when I had layered them up, they still didn't look the best, if you get what I mean. It's such a shame as I adore the colour scheme (we all know I really love my brights and bolds when it comes to eyeshadow these days) and having really enjoyed the Ride or Die Palette, I assumed this one would be just as good - and whilst it is still pretty nice, in all honesty it's not as much so. It's a little more of a mixed bag I guess! Some shades are better that others and whilst you can still make it work and get some pretty looks out of it, it takes a little more effort to get it there sometimes and even then, sometimes the overall finished look isn't perhaps the best quality-wise. I will keep using it and persevering as I love the colour selection too much to just cast it aside (plus, I really like the other palette in the collaboration, so want to enjoy this one as much!) but for now, I can;t say I like or recommend this palette as much as I would the Ride or Die.
