Tried and Tested: Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Setting Spray

We all know by now that in terms of setting sprays - the Urban Decay All Nighter is my number one, holy grail favourite. It really is as amazing as everyone makes it out to be! And because of that, there really aren't many others which I ever want to try or end up purchasing. Sometimes I buy the odd drugstore/affordable offering to switch things up a little as it doesn't feel like such a waste if I don't enjoy it as much, but I try and steer away from any others that are on the high-end/more expensive end of the spectrum overall as generally, I'd just rather stick with my faithful All Nighter! However, there's one which has always caught my eye and that is the Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Setting Spray. Similar to the likes of the All Nighter, it's a staple, classic favourite which has been around for ages and everyone and their Nan has raved on about for years. Like, hardly anyone seems to have a bad word to say about it, so I've always been intrigued in possibly giving it a go at some point. And the other week, with a gift card in hand, the time finally came. I bought it, I've tried it out for a little while and it's now time to share my thoughts...

As I said, I was really eager to try this setting spray out for a good while now. Not only does it get so many rave reviews, but the whole concept of it really appeals to me too. The whole 'hangover' concept sounds like it's right up my street - being a lover of a dewy finish and having normal-to-dry skin! With my holy grail All Nighter being just like a 'regular' setting spray with no particular focus on finish, if I ever do add an extra setting spray into my stash - it'll often be a more dewy, glowy variation that I go for - so I guess that's another reason this one called out to me so much! I also really liked the whole idea that this setting spray is completely alcohol free - unlike my Urban Decay offering. It's something I really have been considering these past couple of years and whilst I have found a couple of good alcohol-free drugstore options, finding any from the high-end arena appears to be a more tricky task! This one was staring me right in the face all this time though, it seems...

First off, the spritz on this is real intense. It's still really nice and 'fine', if you get what I mean - it doesn't splurt or splatter out, basically - but it's just very concentrated. And that's not a bad thing, as like I said it still deposits product consistently and evenly, I just find you really don't need many spritzes at a time! Some makeup sprays can feel so light and fine that you can barely feel them hitting your face and as a result, can end up spraying them for what feels like an age until you finally feel like you've applied them thoroughly. This one, however, you cannot be mistaken when applying and because it's so intense, I find only two-to-three sprays is more than enough to evenly and sufficiently cover my entire face. So, I'm already guessing this spray will likely last me a good amount of time - which is especially always a bonus when it comes to more high end/expensive makeup!

Although this is marketed as being a 'multi-use' spray which you can use for priming, setting or refreshing throughout the day (or even in-between applying your makeup) - I decided mainly utilise it as a setting spray. This is the way in which I've heard the most complements about this product, plus I already have plenty of designated face primers that I use and enjoy and don't tend to refresh my makeup throughout the day! So, I spritz this all over my face as the final, finishing touch - like I would with any setting spray - and I love the result! It really does do a great job of 'melting' together all of my makeup and taking away any of that 'powdery' finish, if you get what I mean. And just as I hoped, I would say it did add a slightly more glowy effect than perhaps my usual All Nighter but at the same time, there's no glitter or shimmer to be seen - just pure glow! My skin looks really hydrated and dewy and also feels so too. It dries on the skin in no time at all, so you won't have to spend too long fanning your face with your hands (come on, we all do it) and - sidenote - it also has a lovely tropical, coconut scent. And whilst that might not be that essential, it certainly makes for a pretty delicious bonus! However, if you're not so much of a fan, don't fret, as it's barely noticeable throughout the day once actually applied. And whilst we're on the topic of how things progress throughout the day - let's talk longevity. As, all in honesty, that's often my the number one thing I look for in a good setting spray - how well does it keep my makeup in place? Well, I'd say this one certainly passes the test! I was a little apprehensive as to how well it would do, seeing as it's alcohol free and also more of a hydrating setting spray, but I was luckily proved wrong! My makeup stayed looking basically as first applied, all day long. It also kept that lovely hydrated feel and finish too!

All in all, will this completely replace my beloved Urban Decay All Nighter? No, but then again I didn't buy this setting spray with that intended. All Nighter is my holy grail and I think will always be a part of my collection! However, will I continue to use the Hangover and likely repurchase again in the future when I'm after a good alternative that works basically just as well - especially one that's also from the high-end market? Yes! Although I'd still say the All Nighter slightly trumps this one when it comes to the upmost longevity (as it does with pretty much all setting sprays), Too Faced Hangover certainly has a couple of things that All Nighter doesn't - it's more hydrating and also alcohol free, of course! So, maybe I'll be keeping both as staples in my stash from now on...
