Tried and Tested: Beauty Bay X MmmMitchell Palette

I had lusted after the Beauty Bay X MmmMitchell Palette for ages - basically ever since it was first released towards the latter half of last year! Mainly due to MakeMeUpMissa's recommendation - she literally deems this one of, if not her favourite eyeshadow palette! Finally, a couple of months ago, I decided to take the plunge. It was a little while after my Birthday and I fancied treating myself - what with me having a Lockdown Birthday which meant I didn't really have anything planned! I picked this palette up, along with a few other items and at last, this month I've got round to giving it a try! Unfortunately, since then, this palette has been discontinued (why?!) so I believe you can no longer get your hands on it, but considering how late I already was on the bandwagon - I gather a lot of people already own it and love it - so I figured it'd still be helpful to share it in a post like this! So, with me having given this gorgeous palette a good try for a fair few weeks now, I feel it's the perfect time to share my thoughts!

This palette was £30, which I feel is a pretty good deal as you get a grand total of thirty two shadows - in both matte and shimmer formulas - plus a good quality mirror in the middle which is magnetic and you can detach it from the palette itself! Just make sure you pop it back in before shutting the palette as it won't properly close without it. The packaging is really sturdy and I also really like how unique and personalised the whole design and theme is. You can definitely tell this is a collaboration palette! As for the inside, it's a super-pretty rainbow palette that has everything from your neutrals (both cool and warm) to vibrant pops of colour and everything in-between and I just really love the colour selection. The pans themselves are giant and so I imagine you get a good amount of product for your money too.

I've been testing and trying it out for a good few weeks now, creating a variety of different looks and it's safe to say - I am in love. As already established, I love the rainbow colour scheme. You really do get pretty much every colour in here you could ever need! On one side, you've got your warm-toned neutrals and brights (reds, oranges, yellows, pinks) and on the other, your cooler-tones neutrals and brights (blues, greens and purples)! The layout makes visualising looks pretty easy honestly. I also really like how for each colour 'family' you get a good selection of tones and depths - and finishes too! For example, in this palette you get a dark matte blue, mid-toned matte blue, iridescent shimmer with blue reflects and a deep blue shimmer. The perfect selection to create a complete monochromatic look or enable you to pair different colour families together. The palette is also more matte-heavy, with just one shimmer per row - something I personally like as I do tend to prefer palettes with a good selection of mattes. Formula-wise, the mattes are beautiful. They're pressed pigments so ideally work best over a slightly tacky base (this is why I'm so glad to have found my Revlon Candid Concealer as it's the best I've tried for this purpose) though I have done a look where I had my base lightly set with powder and honestly, the mattes still performed pretty well. All in all, these mattes are super-pigmented, opaque, creamy and blendable and combine together really well. And then, as for the shimmers - these are equally stunning. Some pick up and apply perfectly well with a flat brush, others do require a fingertip to get them to adhere with their maximum potential but as I've said before, this never bothers me as I find it to be typical of most palettes nowadays and honestly, as long as the shimmer is good, I don't mind how I have to apply it! As I mentioned, you get far more mattes than shimmers in this palette, but the shimmers you do get - you get such a good range! Some gorgeous white iridescent shimmers with varying shifts (one more pink, one more green and one more blue), a yellow gold, a bronze, rich copper, bright pink and deep blue - what more could you want? And as I said, they all have such a lovely, creamy formula! Super intense, reflective and foiled-like. All the shadows inside this palette as a whole also last impeccably - no creasing, fading, transferring to be seen. It's a win, win! I am do glad I finally took the plunge and picked this palette up - especially now it's since been discontinued! I know this palette is going to become one of my staple favourites for a long time to come...
