It's Friday and it's the final instalment on my little makeup brush series here on Dainty Ditsy. Today I'm talking how I take care of my brushes and exactly what gets whipped out
Now I can't take full credit for this one unfortunately as the products I'm mentioning today have been inspired by yet another blogger - what a surprise eh. This time it's Anna yet again, and after watching her video a few months back where she took us through how she cleans her makeup tools and having never fully got into the whole scrub-your-brushes-once-a-week kind of thing, I decided then was the perfect time to start. And so logically it made sense to place a sneaky order for the products Anna was using and a few days later they arrived and I was ready to begin.
I like to do two types of cleaning with two types of cleaning product. A quick clean and a deep clean. I like to do a quick clean in between washes of eye shadow brushes in particular to strip them of their colour ready for the next and a deep clean once a week (if I remember) of all the brushes I own and have used regularly that week.
For a quick clean I like to use The Pro Hygiene Collection Makeup Brush Cleaner. For this I spritz a couple of squirts into a piece of kitchen roll, and then swirl my brush into it until it runs clean. I then simply pat the brush a little back into its natural shape and put it back into my pot. The formula of this stuff dries almost instantly so there's no issue with having wet brushes - perfect for a quick clean!
For a deeper clean I use the Dr Bronner Magic Soap in the Almond fragrance. This works much deeper than the previous cleaner and so is ideal for a weekly clean. For this I run the brush under running lukewarm water until it's fully sodden. I then pore a little soap into my hand and swirl the brush round in my palm until the soap lathers up. I then rinse the brush under the tap again until the water runs clean. I make sure I squeeze the brush occasionally whilst rinsing to ensure the dirt gets out and I also make sure I point the brush downwards as I go so no water gets into the funnel and damages the brush.
