The Drugstore Liquid Lipstick Round-Up...

I think we all know by now that I love a good matte liquid lipstick. Ever since trying them out a couple of years back, they've fast become my top, go-to format of lip product and I've also tried out a lot of different formulas from different brands over that time too. Some I've liked, some I've really loved and some much less so - but something I've never done before is group all of them together into one (rather big) round-up post like this - detailing just why I love them, or perhaps don't. So, that's exactly what I'm going to do today. Let's get started...

BARRY M MATTE ME UP LIQUID LIP PAINTS/LIP KITS - First up - what has to be my favourite, favourite formula liquid lipstick-wise that I've tried so far - are the Matte Me Up's from Barry M. These are actually available both as 'Singles' and also packaged up with matching lip liners as 'Lip Kits' (hello, potential Kylie Cosmetics dupes) and both versions are equally awesome. The formula is super thin and liquidy, yet applies onto the lips fully opaque in just layer, dries down fully powdery-matte (my personal preferred finish) and once they're on - they sure do last all day long. They're completely transfer-proof and actually don't feel at all uncomfortable to wear throughout the day either, despite the super matte effect. I've built up quite the collection so far of both and I've also seen they've recently released more Lip Kit shades - so I will definitely be looking at picking those up too...

SLEEK MATTE ME LIP CREAMS - These liquid lipsticks from Sleek were one of the first on the drugstore market, I believe, but they're still one of the best in my opinion. They're a little thicker and more creamy in texture, but still dry down to a similar powdery-matte finish. Some of the deeper, darker colours require a little more than one layer to achieve full opaque-ness, but once you get it there - the colours are stunning. They feel really lovely and lightweight on the lips and wear well throughout the day aswell.

NYX LIP LINGERIE LIQUID LIPSTICKS - Another firm favourite of mine from the drusgtore when it comes to liquid lips has to be these from NYX. I originally tried their Liquid Suede's but found the cream texture that didn't completely dry and set down to not really be to my personal taste - however these Lip Lingerie's are much more up my street. They're completely transfer-proof with a powdery matte finish, the large, flat doe foot makes application a breeze, they apply and dry fully opaque on the lips and the colour selection (as the name suggests) is just spot-on for if a nude liquid lipstick is what you're after. They have basically every type and tone you could wish for and I have a fair few in my collection - all of which, I really love.

RIMMEL STAY MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOURS - Rimmel were one of the last drugstore/affordable brands to get on the whole 'liquid lipstick' hype bandwagon, but it was well worth the wait as these are another awesome formula. The pointed, flexible doe foot makes for a really precise application and the creamy, moussey formula is a little thicker in texture, yet still dries down to a pretty lightweight feeling finish. Some of the colours do require a little more than the one layer to achieve full opacity, but for the most part it's not too much of a major concern and once fully set down (which doesn't take too much time at all), the colour stays in place with no transferring and minimal wear all day long.

MUA VELVET LIP LACQUERS - These liquid lipsticks from MUA are one of the cheapest offerings out there, yet they really are pretty good if you ask me. They apply really opaque in one layer, dry down quickly to a powdery matte finish and last well throughout the day - I mean, what more could you want? They don't feel as comfortable and the formula does tend to look a little less flattering on the lips, but for such a super-affordable option, you really can't go too wrong with picking up any of the colours of the (very extensive) shade range...

MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY MATTE INK LIQUID LIPSTICKS - Another awesome liquid lipstick formula comes from Maybelline. This range was released not too long ago but has soon made it to one of my top formulas I've tried so far. These definitely set down, but they don't actually dry to a powdery matte finish like most of my other favourites. Instead, these retain a slight, almost patent-like sheen and though that's normally something I don't typically like in a liquid lipstick as it usually means things don't last and move around, for some reason with these, they don't. Bizarre, I know, but if anything, I actually think this formula has even better lasting-power of them all. Combined with the fully opaque finish in just one layer and rather big selection of shades (especially with their recent 'Un-Nude' range) - you really can't go wrong!

TANYA BURR COSMETICS 'SOFT LUXE' MATTE LIPS - This offering from the lovely Tanya Burr comes in only three shades and is not as easily accessible as some of the others in this post, but considering the fact I went through a period of time a couple of years ago of wearing 'Martha Moo' almost exclusively on my lips - I thought they were more than deserving of a mention. The creamy formula doesn't dry down fully matte, matte, isn't completely transfer proof and doesn't last all day but the super-comfortable finish (and gorgeous pinky, browney, mauve colour of 'Martha Moo' in particular) makes it worth it. Plus, the sweet, cake-y scent is a bit of a bonus too...

MISS SPORTY MATTE TO LAST 24HR LIP CREAMS - These recent range from Miss Sporty are possibly one of the cheapest offerings of the lot, but they're actually rather nice too. They remind me a lot of the Rimmel Stay Matte Lip Colours with that same kind of light, moussey formula and soft, matte finish that dries down but doesn't dry out the lips and considering they're even more affordable too - what's not to love? The colours to require a little more than just one layer to build up to full opacity, but it's more than worth it once you get them there.

NYX SOFT MATTE LIP CREAMS - Moving onto more 'lip creams', you can't go wrong with a good ol' NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. A classic in the drugstore that comes in a massive range of shades and isn't too pricey either - they. are. awesome. The moussey texture applies fully opaque in one layer, dries down to a - you guessed it - soft matte finish that's doesn't feel at all drying on the lips and though they don't last as long as 'traditional' liquid lipsticks in this post, if I ever want a liquid lip, but one that won't compromise on comfort - a lip cream is what I opt for and these ones from NYX are always a go-to.

COLLECTION VELVET KISS MATTE LIP CREAMS - If you want basically an exact dupe for the above offering from NYX then definitely check out this range from Collection. They are virtually identical - from the packaging, to the formula, the finish and even the scent - everything. They're just expanded their shade range to include even more neutral tones, plus the pops of colour in the original range are simply stunning too. Plus, they come in at an even more affordable price-point...

BOURJOIS ROUGE EDITION VELVETS - Now, these from Bourjois I think were *possibly* one of, if not the first liquid lipstick to hit the drugstore/affordable market a few years ago. While they're not a super powdery matte formula and finish that I've over time come to know and love with liquid lipsticks, I still think these remain one of the best formulas out there. They're super thin in texture, yet apply fully pigmented and opaque in one coat, dry down quickly and feel really lightweight and comfortable on the lips too.

NYX LIQUID SUEDE CREAM LIPSTICKS - Finally, finishing up on some liquid lippies that I perhaps didn't enjoy as much. Though the Lip Lingeries from NYX are awesome, these ones just aren't to much up my street. They don't properly dry down and so have a habit of moving around, transferring and just generally wearing off quickly and as you might have gathered by now - that's not what I'm after in a good liquid lipstick. A shame, but these just aren't for me.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION RETRO LUXE MATTE LIP KITS - The Lip Kits from Barry M are awesome, but these ones from Makeup Rev - not so much. Don't get me wrong, they're not awful, but the slightly tacky finish isn't the best and I find because of that, they generally transfer and wear down a lot quicker too. It's a shame as the colours in the range, plus the formula of the matching lip liners is great but the liquid lipstick themselves aren't a favourite of mine.

PRIMARK SUPER MATTE LIQUID LIPSTICKS - Finally, possibly my least favourite liquid lipstick formula I've tried so far comes from Primark. In all fairness, this was a good while ago and I've seen Primark release a fair few other ranges of liquid lipsticks since that may well be a lot better but these just aren't the one. They're difficult to apply, heavy on the lips and feel and look very uncomfortable and dry too. They're super cheap and it honestly shows - if a really affordable option if what you're after, definitely check out one of the better offerings I've suggested earlier!
