As you may remember, for my Birthday earlier this month, I was lucky enough to be able to choose out some more 'special', expensive makeup items to make up my gift from my Parents. And naturally, as soon as I'd featured all of these items in my Birthday 'Haul' post, I was super-excited to get round to trying and testing all of these beauties out - the first being the OFRA X Nikkie Tutorials Highlighter in 'Glazed Donut'!
I figured this highlighter would be the perfect place to start in terms of trying out all of these new makeup goodies as it's pretty quick and easy to tell if it's a good'un (Spoiler Alert - it most definitely is) in one go - unlike an eyeshadow palette or lipstick - and also, I am a self-confessed highlighter junkie and just love a good glow. So, the other day - this became the first item I gave a go and Oh. My. Goodness. - I love it.
I have so many awesome highlighters and so many favourites - all from the drugstore - but I've always been intrigued by how a more expensive, 'luxury' highlighter would perform in comparison. And, so far - I am pretty damn impressed. Don't get me wrong, I adore my affordable glow-givers (I always got the impression that highlighters are one of the most consistent makeup items across the board) but I can definitely see how this one comes in at a much higher price tag. Not only is the packaging just gorgeous - with the soft-matte finish, super ergonomic shape and magnetic closing - the highlighter itself both looks and performs like a dream. The way it's pressed into the pan almost makes it look too good to use, but once you do it is so worth it! The icy, champagne colour is just perfect for my skin-tone and you only need the smallest amount on your brush to really give such a lovely, intense, blinding glow - however, you can easily dial things up or down as you'd wish pretty easily too! And whilst I'd say I have a lot of more affordable highlighters in my collection that match this level of glowiness, where I find this one from OFRA definitely differs from a lot of them is the finish. This just sits so impeccably on the skin - it almost looks invisible, until it catches the light. There's no glitter, or even much shimmer that's detectable on the skin - until you turn your cheek! It's almost as if it melts into the skin and just creates this gorgeous, skin-like, 'natural' sheen (but of course, not natural as it's so intense and full-on, yanno). The formula is just so creamy, smooth and soft - so much so that it creates hardly any kickback in the pan when you swirl in your brush, though it definitely picks up easily on the brush itself. Basically, all in all - I love, love, LOVE this and I am so happy I chose it out for my Birthday! I think I've found a new favourites highlighter - though I think I'll be reserving it for 'special' occasion just so I can savour it for as long as possible...
