Tried and Tested: Revolution Conceal and Hydrate Foundation and Concealer!

It's no secret that I love the Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer. Ever since it launched back at the start of 2018, it's fast become my new holy grail concealer. Full coverage, blends like a dream with a semi-matte finish that lasts all day long - but without looking too dry or creasing up! So, when the matching Conceal and Define Foundation followed a few months later - I knew I had to give it a whirl. And, you know what - it soon became an instant new favourite of mine. Not so much of an everyday staple as the concealer, but for whenever I've wanted a more full, full coverage base with slightly more of a matte-ish finish than my usual foundations (I tend to be a medium coverage, with a more glowy effect type of gal most of the time) - this foundation became what I'd reach for. Considering I have normal/dry/dehydrated skin, the semi-matte finish worked perfectly fine on me and the coverage and finish was just gorgeous. So rich in pigment that only a few swipes of the doe foot applicator would be enough to basically give me full coverage, it blended into the skin with minimal effort and time needed and it just sat so smoothly on the complexion too. Set down, it lasted impeccably - it quickly became my new holy grail for nights out, when I generally want a more full coverage and a slightly more matte finish, as that tends to be the most hardy and long-lasting for when you need you makeup to hold up so long.

However, when I saw Revolution were coming out with a slightly more hydrating, glowy version of both the concealer and foundation - I knew I had to pick both of them up. Yes, I get along with the originals, but as I said, having a slightly drier complexion means I never say no to anything that claims to be more moisturising on the skin. Introducing - the Conceal and Hydrate Foundation and Conceal and Define Concealer...

This brand new range is basically the juicier version of the classic Conceal and Define family. The Conceal and Hydrate Foundation claims to be 'infused with hyaluronic acid to hydrate the complexion, provide a plumping effect and create a smoother, satin glow finish to the skin'; whilst the matching Conceal and Hydrate Concealer supposedly 'offers all day hydration thanks to hyaluronic acid (again!), covers blemishes, evens skin tone and counteracts dark circles'. Both sound pretty good to me! Both products have the same 50-shade-strong range (which is always awesome) and also the shades within that supposedly match up identically to the shades in the Conceal and Define. So, I went ahead and picked up my usual shades from that range that I picked out and found worked for me perfectly - the Foundation in 'F2' and the Concealer in 'C1'!

Packaging-wise, they look pretty comparable to the Conceal and Define. The foundation is in the same style of frosted glass bottle, just with a different coloured label and, perhaps most excitedly - this time, it's got a pump! I personally didn't really mind the doe foot of the original C&D Foundation, but I do always like a classic pump for ease and convenience, so this was a pretty good move I think. The concealer is in the exact same kind of component as their Supersize C&D Concealer, but this C&H one is interestingly not actually titled 'Supersize' this time. So, I'm thinking they may just be sticking with that size of concealer with this range - which is good for me, as you get more product and the price actually works out a little better too. You get the exact same 23ml of Foundation as before (about a third shy of the 30ml you typically get in most foundations) and 13g/ml of Concealer - the same as the Supersize in the Conceal and Define. The prices are also the same as their counterparts - £9.00 for the Foundation and £7.00 for the Concealer. Like before, I do kind of wish they had upped the foundation to the standard 30ml to make it even more of a good deal but hey, as always, the prices of this range are typical of Makeup Revolution - pretty bargainous!

Let's get onto the actual products inside. First up - the Foundation! I was pretty excited to try this as, like I said earlier, of the two Conceal and Define Family - the foundation was always the one which, whilst I really loved, was not as spot-on perfect for me to be used on an everyday basis. I decided to try it at first without a primer underneath so I could be able to see how it performs alone and pumped some onto the back of my hand as usual. A the previous foundation had a doe foot applicator, I was a little unsure as to how much I'd need compared this time so decided to go with just the one full pump to start with. And let me tell you - this pump sure dispenses a lot. In the end, I actually found one full pump was just enough to cover my whole face! Consistency-wise, this foundation is definitely thinner and moire 'liquidy' than the original C&D. It blends in so super-easily and quickly and you can kinda see how more hydrating this formula is as it pretty much straight away looks so far more luminous and glowy than the C&D. It still doesn't look greasy though - which is always a good thing! Coverage-wise, the foundation claims to be medium-full and also buildable - and I'd actually say it lives up to that statement. I was really pleasantly surprised by how much coverage this foundation has, considering it's a more luminous formula. Typically, hydrating/glowy foundations can be lower in coverage or perhaps not as able to be layered up - but this one seems to be an exception. Like I said, I found one full pump to be more than enough to cover my whole face and for that sole layer I'd certainly say it gave me a good, medium coverage. Slightly less than my C&D, but that one admittedly is more of a full-full coverage foundation straight from the off. However, a couple of times I've worn this new Conceal and Hydrate Foundation I have decided to go in with a little more on certain areas to see how and whether it builds up in coverage and I'd definitely say it does - which is great as I personally like to be able to sheer out or build up my bases as I wish or perhaps depending on what I'm doing my makeup for! After a little while, whilst I moved onto the concealer, I'd say the foundation did dry down a little but it still retained a lot of its dewiness. I was also very impressed by how lightweight this foundation felt on me considering how good the coverage was! Shade-wise, I'd say it matched up fairly well to my C&D and so was a pretty good match for me and it definitely didn't oxidise throughout the day either. I set/baked my face as usual and afterwards, whilst my face was obviously more mattified, I'd certainly say my base looked far more radiant and luminous than my C&D would typically look on me at that point. Everything else I applied and blended over the top - my contour, bronzer, highlighter etc. - did so super well and easily, with no issues at all and all in all, I was pretty happy with how my face looked and felt!

Moving onto the Concealer - I was super eager to see how this compared to my beloved Conceal and Define, as I really do use that concealer nearly everyday! To me, that concealer is kind of ideal so would I like this one as much? Well, actually - I really do. Like the foundation, I could immediately tell this had a slightly thinner texture than its original counterpart. Not too much so that it's runny, just that slight bit more liquid-y. It blended out super easily, just like the foundation and coverage-wise - I'd say it's pretty similar too. Not as full coverage in one go as the original C&D, but definitely still a strong medium and just like the foundation, when I went in with another layer, it built up to more of a full coverage pretty well. I definitely feel like because the formula of this is slightly more moisturising and the texture more thin in feel, it is slightly more forgiving on the skin. Whilst I do love the C&D, it would sometimes feel or look slightly heavy or cake up a little on my skin - mainly under the eyes - if I applied a little too much or simply didn't blend it in enough. However, I feel like this Conceal and Hydrate is the sort of concealer that I might encounter that issue less with - and yet still be able to get that full coverage from! Every time I've used it so far, it's blended in easy-peasy, gives such a good coverage (especially when I add that sneaky extra in certain areas) and sits super nicely on the skin too. And that stays that way, when I set/bake my face! It looks so smooth and almost airbrushed, not cakey in anyway and whilst my face is thoroughly set, it doesn't look too matte or feel or look dry at all. I love the finished result just as much as my C&D, but I perhaps do feel this Conceal and Hydrate Concealer looks slightly more lightweight on my skin when set than and still feels slightly lighter on my skin too! So, maybe I have indeed found a new favourite?

Of course, the proof of the makeup pudding is in - how long and how well does it hold up? Well, I'm pleased to report that I've used this foundation and concealer together a fair few times since picking it up - using various primers and setting sprays - and every single time, I've been so, so impressed with not only how both apply and look to start off with, but also how well they hang around for the rest of the day/night too. Both stay looking virtually impeccable throughout the day - no separation, fading or caking up and no major creases either. The foundation gets slightly more glowy as time goes on - mainly in areas where I've not majorly powdered or baked - but it doesn't look greasy or oily at all, just healthy! The concealer I always set more thoroughly so it was never super-luminous looking to begin with and I'd say it remained that way too. Basically, these are definitely two new favourites of mine. Will I stop using the classic Conceal and Define Range? No - I really enjoy both formulas overall! However, I certainly think - especially when it comes to the foundation - that I may have found something a little bit better for me and that I may find myself reaching for more often from now on...
