Lip liner has fast become one of my favourite makeup products. Not only to help define my lips, create a good shape to fill in with whatever lip product I choose that day and ensure things last as long as possible and stay within the lines - but also to of course slightly (or maybe not-so-slightly) overline and create the illusion of a bigger, plumper lip! Admittedly, I do have naturally quite nice, full-ish lips to begin with, but I do really like making them look as plump and juicy as they can - so lip liners are pretty much my makeup best friend! Over time, I've tried a lot of different brands, ranges and formulas and generally - I have a few particular brands which are my go-to's. If I ever need or want a new lip liner, I will automatically go to these brands first before I consider branching out to any others. And, whatever range of theirs I choose from, I can generally rest assured that their lip liners will be pretty awesome. Let's discuss my faves...
RIMMEL - I think Rimmel was actually the first brand I went to for lip liners, back in the day! And they turned out to be a pretty good shout - so much so I continue to reach for their offerings to this day. Their 1000 Kisses Lip Liners in particular have become my most-used staple - traditional wooden pencils with a super creamy, but still slightly waxy formula that glides on with ease but stays perfectly in place all day long - and not only are they really well-pigmented, they come in such a good range of shades too!
PRIMARK - You really cannot beat Primark when it comes to their lip liners. They're pigmented, with a creamy, easy to apply formula and a long-lasting finish and they have a really good amount of shades too. Oh, and did I mention - they're only £1 each! Now they've reopened, you bet I'll be adding a few new ones to my basket when I make my first trip...
NYX - NYX are another awesome brand for lip liners. I'd always heard such good things and let me tell you - they were not wrong! First of all, they have possibly one of the most extensive shades ranges out there. Basically, across all of their different formulas, they have pretty much any and every lip liner shade you could ever need! Nudes, pinks, purples, reds, oranges, crazy colours - you name it, NYX have it. They also, as I mentioned, have various different formulas to offer too. Their Slim Lip Pencils are their 'traditional', classic wooden lip liners, their Slide On Glide On Lip Liners are also housed in wooden packaging, but have a more creamy texture, whilst their Suede Matte Lip Liners are their - you guessed it - most ultra matte finish! They also have their Retractable Lip Liners, which I haven't personally tried, but have heard good things about and are perhaps the most convenient with their retractable mechanism which means you don't have to get your sharpener out! All in all, NYX's lip liners are The. One. Really pigmented, a great formula that's easy to apply and lasts impeccably and - as I said - a great shade range that basically guarantees you can find the colour you're after!
MUA - I vaguely remember using a couple of MUA's lip liners back in the day but I soon moved onto new horizons. That was until I heard amazing things about their new and revamped ones last year! MakeMeUpMissa started raving about them - now called their Intense Colour Lip Liners - and after quickly giving them a go myself, I soon understood why. These are a grand total of £1.50 each, are bloomin' massive (like, you get so much product for your money with these) and they're amazing quality too. Pigmented, creamy but slightly waxy in texture, easy to apply, long-wearing and a great, wide shade range to boot! What's not to love?
